yeah...not so funny. I mean-I guess it's poking as much fun at McDonald's as it is the movie...but still...this movie is a milestone for the gay population. While that doesn't make it "off limits" for humor, I for one am tired of the lame jokes and homophobic comments by late night comics and presenters at awards ceremonies.
Sex was an important component of the film, but that isn't the ONLY aspect of the story. Why do we ALWAYS have to reduce gay life to dick and cum jokes...kinda sad, isn't it?
I agree Donnie, this video offended me slightly. There is more to me and my relationships with men than just getting dick, and BBM was far from shallow.
Why do other gay men feel the need to perpetuate this sex-obssessed-faggot stereotype? I feel it puts me at a disadvantage in life to be seen as nothing more than a cock-guzzling cumdumpster. Institutions like gay marriage will never be fully accepted by society if homosexuality continues to be portrayed even by our own kind as a lust thing rather than a love thing.
It's like BBM took a big step forward - then gay men everywhere took a huge step back.
That is really funny... aside from the tates like cum line. As for brokeback mountain being a milestone... yes, it's won award and is a beautiful well written film. BUT, it's also a film in which to men fall in love and get married... to women... and are never really happy again... Yippie..thats how i wanna live my life. Come on... it's a great film but no sacred cow. Lighten up.
this comment's mostly for donnie - i find it funny how you say "Why do we ALWAYS have to reduce gay life to dick and cum jokes...kinda sad, isn't it?" and meanwhile this site is covered with us men cumming on tables and holding our dicks in our hands. nothing could be construed as more stereotypical than that.
i for one loved the short film - thought it was funny and think it's pretty intersting that the gay community could get so offended by some off-color satirical humor. aren't we supposed to be the "less" judgemental crowd?
everyone needs to just relax
This could become a hot topic, this little tasteless video. I must say that while I appreciate their "attempt" at humor, they could have picked a better target. And while I agree in theory with all of the posters of comments, I have to say I personally would like to see anyone who makes fun of this movie shot. But thats my opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. And I guess that we are supposed to be the less-judgemental crowd, but when something as profound as Brokeback Mountain comes along, finally I might add, it sure seems we as a culture were quick to get hateful about it. Granted a lot of openly gay men may not relate to the film, but you have to respect the story and feel the pain of the two men. I am sure there are a lot of us out there that have been in love with someone who we could not show our feelings to, or make those feelings public. So yes they marry women, lots of "us" do. Thats not the point of the film. It sure seems that we could muster some respect for this as opposed to being so quick to being catty and making stupid parodies about it. I guess I can't find it in my heart to "relax" when some of our own are trashing something as beautiful as Brokeback Mountain.
90% of the comedy i've seen stems from briefly exploiting some form of stereotype and poking fun at them. chris rock's routine is 100% stereotypes. he makes fun of blacks, whites, straights, gays and maybe that humor offends or puts you off as well, but if you'd like to see those poking fun at this movie shot then i have two things to say...
#1 - you should focus your outrage at saturday night live, jay leno, conan obrien, and even a slew of gay comics that i've seen locally. sure it's getting to be a tired topic, but why is it off limits?
#2 - look, this movie is wondeful, but it's not the second coming of christ here. as a society we now poke fun at the iraq invasion, 9/11, the holocaust (often by jewish comics), and many more topoics that i'd consider way more sensitive.
what is it about this movie that makes it so holy that it cannot be poked fun at? even I giggled when i saw the trailer because it was presented poorly. yet the movie itself was a beutiful tale of courage, love and yes they happened to be homosexual.
i don't think making jokes about any topic means those doing so have less respect for the topic - it's just comedy and we all need to relax a bit.... guys, it's a MOVIE - it's not our new bible
ultimately everyone has their own opinion as you said, but i for one am tired of people getting offended at this that and the other thing - let it go.. okay, that's it i'm done ranting :)
Well, we shall just have to agree to disagree. I'm not sure that I intended to express outrage at the tasteless little parody. I also did not intend to attempt to make one think that it is our new bible, especially since I don't believe in the old one. I just think it is sad as a society (gay, straight, black, white, jewish etc..) that we are constantly "poking fun" at ourselves. Somethings should be sacred and not made fun of. Ie- the holocaust, 9/11 and this movie. I have now been to see this movie 4 times and am amazed that in small town USA (Columbia,MO) that the straight people in the audience out number the gay people. It seems to show some acceptance and understanding on the part of the straight folks. I guess I should just resign myself to the fact that when something is put out there like Brokeback Mountain, there are goign to be people that are going to stand in line to poke fun at it. I would just like to think that the gay culture would feel at least a small victory in the wide release and acceptance (for the most part) of a serious "gay" movie, and not be so quick to be catty about it. As for focusing my outrage, I don't watch those shows or comics. I do however use this site, and like you have an opinion to express. I appreciate the owners of the site allowing us to post our comments. I absolutely believe that if you make jokes about a topic, you are showing less respect for the topic. Can you honestly say that you make fun of something because you have respect for it? Surely not. I guess that I am tired too. Tired that people are not getting offended about certain things enough. The "comedy" was disrepectful, to us as a culture, to the actors that played in the movie and to the director and producers and all the other people involved. We are never going to get anywhere if people don't start getting offended. I'm guess I am done ranting as well. Thanks for the opportunity to spare back and forth.
Interesting comments guys, yeah everyones entitled to their opinions, and also everyone doesnt have to agree with everyone else either - the way I see it that this is a gay adult entertainment site and not an area for serious debate or discussion on the merits of the rights and wrongs of the world, there are enough forums out there for that type of thing. That said I think QC do a wonderful job giving us our daily "fix" on all the best smut on the net, yeah sure they dont always get it right, but theyre human too :) thankfully they DO get it right most of the time, I guess they want to cater to all tastes, and thats hard when not everyone likes the same thing, I for one applaud that they do have diversity and depth here in their choices of porn, OK so sometimes a bit of the humour doesnt agree with a few people, but thats life isnt it? Non of us are perfect!
I completely agree-excellent post. Now I really will shut up.
