QueerClick recently sat down with Mr. Danvers to learn more about his life outside porn, experience in the adult industry and future plans.

QUEERCLICK: You were robbed again! First the GayVN Awards failed to recognize you, now you've been shut out of the Grabbys. Is it a conspiracy or is the industry just that clueless?

RJ DANVERS: Haha. I'm starting to believe it's a conspiracy! I was really bummed out about the GayVN's and I guess I got my hopes up for the Grabbys, but ya know, I guess it just wasn't my year. I'm gonna take it with a grain of salt, and just be happy for my buddies that got noms: Noah Driver, Luke Hass and Justin Christopher in particular. I guess the only real dissapointment that I had about it was the chance to be nominated for Best Newcomer at either award show, but it's not that big of a deal. I'm having a blast just making the movies, and so that's pay off enough. And all I have to say about next year's awards is to wait and see my scene in Jock Itch with Josh West... it's absolutely stellar!

QC: You're simultaneously juggling college with a high profile porn career. How do you do it?

RJ: Raging Stallion has been really great about scheduling my shoots around my school schedule. I go to school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in a really conservative, Christian Reformed area of West Michigan. Getting the chance to jet out of here and spend a few days in California is amazing. It always seems right when I can't take any more of the barns, corn fields and red necks is right when I get a break and get to film a movie! But either way, I'm always doing homework on the planes, and my professors are cool about it... I'm just running out of excuses to go out of town... you can only claim your grandma died so many times before they start to wonder :-)

QC: You recently shot a scene with Damien Crosse. The world is dying to know: how does he fuck?

RJ: Damien was incredible. There is some really really hot stuff in that scene. The oral is amazing. Basically, I just service Damien for a good long while before he gets in my ass for some brutal fucking. And he is basically what you see in the movies : a total animal in the sack. My favorite position is something the camera guys at Raging have dubbed "the piledriver", and Damien definitely drilled me hard in that one. I can't wait to see it on camera! QC: What's next in your porn career? Do you think you'll be in porn for a long time or are you just in it until you start a non-adult job after college?

RJ: I've actually had some long talks with Chris Ward about keeping my entire career with Raging Stallion. I actually couldn't be happier with that. They've really treated me like family since I started working with them and I think it would feel weird if I ever worked for a different studio. As far as what's next, I just want to take it to the highest level it can take me. I see myself sticking around for as long as the industry will have me. I'm young enough that I can probably turn this into a Madonna-esque carreer, and reinvent myself continuously down the road. That's what I see myself doing. Reinventing myself and keeping everyone on their toes :-) I try to make something different in every movie... be it the hair on my head, my facial hair, the positions... I want there to be something new and exciting in every project I work on.

QC: How did you ended up doing porn?

Francesco: Well, my ex-boyfriend, Felipe Romano, was working in the industry... He used to work for Falcon and I had the chance to look at the industry and how it is like. I was very jealous with all the attention he was getting and he was also making a lot of money, so I decided, "I can do it too." Then my best friend Martin Mazza [QC Link], who is Spain, said "why don't you try? I received emails from some companies and they saw your pictures, they are offering this amount of money". So I got in touch with Hot House... after two weeks I was in California shooting my first movie. And then my company offered me an exclusive that I signed, so then I found myself as a porn actor one day (laughing) and then rest is history.

Did you get nervous on your first scene?

I was very nervous, yes. My first experience was in the movie "Black" from Hot House, a leather movie. Initially I was supposed to be in the movie for only one scene but I ended up in another scene because the director said "I can not believe this is your first time doing it, you are very good and you are very natural, you know exactly what to do" and honestly, when I look at it now the first scene I can tell that I was very nervous. Everybody told me and I was doing great and everything, but I don't like it, it's not my favorite movie.

And for how long have you been doing it?

Very short. Many people don't realize that, but I did my first movie in June 2006, so it's just over one year and four months. I've done seven movies so far and every movie it's being better than the last. My last movie is "Jock Strap" from Hot House, and I saw a little bit of it and it's my favorite movie.

How do you deal with people on the streets who recognize you? How do they react to you?

Here in Europe they don't. In Europe there's a different market for porn. I live in Madrid, Spain, and everybody knows me. I live in the gay area, I go to shopping, I go to the gym, occasionally to clubs... so I know a lot of people here, they used to see me around, so it's not like a big deal. When I go to United States is different, there is a different market. If you go to San Francisco you will find big posters on the streets and literally if you go to Castro, porn stars are celebrities. I used to go to San Francisco with my ex-boyfriend François Sagat [QC Link] and people used to stop us, they wanted to take a picture and everything. It was always very nice. But, I must say that the most of attention that I get is through my website, e-mails, Myspace.

Chad, thank you for doing this interview. So along with being a dancer for the group you are also the Communications Director? How did you get involved in the group?

Chad: Thanks for interviewing me! This is my fifth year with the group. I joined in late 2001 and from the get-go, I volunteered my skills as a graphic designer. Over the years, the group's director, Kevin, delegated more and more of the advertising and marketing materials to me. Last year, Kevin started to bounce more ideas off of me, and I stepped up my responsibilities. It was around that time that he crowned me the "Communications Director." My first order of business was to redesign the website. After months of organizing and developing, we finally launched the new site this past June. Most of the credit goes to my college friend John for all his hard work. This year we also decided to produce another calendar, the group's third. I volunteered to design it, as well as shoot the video for the DVD. I'd never done anything like that before and found it was quite a challenging project. But I'm thrilled with the results. Hopefully everyone else is too...

You're originally from Florida, that is a big difference from DC. What are the biggest differences in culture and lifestyle?

Chad: Well, I grew up in a small town in Florida and knew that I wanted to live in a big city after college. I've been in DC for almost 10 years now and really consider it my home. I would say the differences I notice are not just based in locale but also with where I am in my life.... I'm not that wide-eyed 20-something any more. DC definitely has a lot more to offer... there's many more opportunities... more people, more diversity, more places to visit whether it be theaters, museums, bars and clubs. There's always something going on and always new people to meet. I'm generally not that into politics---a rarity in DC, I know---but it is exciting to live in the nation's capital.

What with the nickname "Chandy?"

Chad: **laughs** Not sure I should share that story. It's a little embarrassing. But here goes... One Halloween in college, I went in drag as a cheerleader named "Cindi." I've sort of always had this childhood fantasy about being a cheerleader. Well, that fantasy lives on today... I often find myself in a cheerleader type role when I'm with a group of people, such as the Cowboys. A year or so ago, a close friend asked about this cheerleader obsession and I told him about "Cindi." He decided that my new alter-ego would be called "Chandy"---a combination of "Chad" and "Cindi." And thus, Chandy was born. I don't perform in drag and it's not a separate identity or anything. It's just a funny nickname that stuck.

Ok, I see you're a Dixie Chicks fan just like me. Did you see them in DC? Thoughts on their new CD? I think Not Ready To Make Nice is one of the most passionate and cathartic songs ever done, what do you think?

Chad: I love the Dixie Chicks! Unfortunately I missed their DC concert. I really love the new CD! I'm so proud of them for coming back so strong... and for not backing down. I think for all the fans they lost in the "red" states, they've gained back in the "blue" states. That's so awesome! I think my favorite song on the new CD is the title track, "The Long Way Around." I relate to that song a lot. However, you are right about "Not Ready to Make Nice"---there is a lot of passion there. I get chills every time Natalie sings, "And how in the world can the words that I said, Send somebody so over the edge, That they'd write me a letter, Sayin' that I better shut up and sing, Or my life will be over." Amazingly powerful!

You have one of the cutest grins ever, it really draws people in and I'm sure you already realize your ass is a lethal weapon. WOW! How often are you hit on dancing? Ever had that one (or 5) just sweep you off your cowboy boots and thrill you for the night?

Chad: WOW... thank you! That's quite a compliment! Not sure I've had my ass called a lethal weapon before. **laughs** Believe it or not, I'm not hit on that often. Occassionally someone will come up to me after a performance, but most of our fans like to admire from afar. Plus, I like to do the chasing, most of the time. So usually I'm the one going up to guys.

The two biggest events in your life are what? Why?

Chad: Oh god! That's a tough question. One would have to be coming out as a gay man. I was somewhat of a late bloomer and didn't really put it all together until after high school. But once I realized that I was gay, everything just made sense. Not that being gay is easy and not that being gay defines my life, but it's touched every aspect of my life... who my friends are, where I live, what I do, becoming a DC Cowboy. It's so much easier to live life when you're honest with yourself. I'll pick something stupid for the other one.... let's see.... I'll say being cast as the title character in "The Gingerbread Man" in the 1st Grade. **laughs** That really sent me down a path of becoming a performer.

There is a sexual fluidity between dance and eroticism, why do you think that is?

Chad: Probably because dance is so physical... whether you are dancing alone or with someone, there's movement of the body... you focus on your body and the way it moves. When you are with someone, it's a way to connect those two bodies together. It's like foreplay. Someone once said, "Dancing is the perpendicular expression of a horizontal desire." I think that says it all.

What can a guy do to absolutely steal your heart, about 120,000 want to know right now? Help them out with how to make Chad take notice of them.

Chad: Well, the first thing that gets my attention is a sexy body.... which can be anything from a handsome face, huge pecs, a tight t-shirt, a round ass or most importantly, a welcoming smile, a whimsical look in his eye. I'm also drawn to a guy who shares my same energy level. He must have enthusiasm and a zeist for life. It helps if we get excited about the same things. But he needs to bring a certain energy to the table. However, a huge turn-off is when a guy is overly aggressive and comes on too strong; someone who tries too hard. I'm a good listener and take a genuine interest in people. And I expect the same. It helps if they are a fan of the DC Cowboys.

Chad: Mmmm... after Brokeback Mountain, it's gotta be something with Jake Gyllenhaal. **laughs** I still have this notion that a cowboy must be a rugged, handsome man's man, despite the fact that I'm not. **laughts** So, I think my fantasy would involve a really hot, hairy-chested stud in a cowboy hat, tight jeans and boots riding up on a horse to sweep me off my feet.... take me to the barn and have his way with me.

Matthew Rush (born Gregory Grove on September 22, 1972) is an American-gay pornographic actor who appears in films and magazines. He is also a bodybuilder and personal trainer under his real name. He has competed at the Gay Games in Amsterdam and Sydney, Australia.

Rush is the son of an African-American father, and a German/Italian mother, who raised him as a single parent. He grew up in the small town of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. DocFeelQC: A rarity! It's nice to see some real men aren't afraid to show emotion. I read about your 911 experience and how it touched you deeply. I was impressed with your sensitivity.

MR: Yeah that was a pretty emotional time. I was in Sacramento shooting. A friend of mine called and woke me up. I turned on the TV and watched the whole thing unfold. I wasn't sure if I was safe, my family was safe it was scary.

DocFeelQC: I agree , I was in a classroom lecturing that day and will never forget it. It was a huge American-bonding moment.

MR: I don't think we will ever forget where we were during 9/11

DocFeelQC: You know that is what struck me about your words. I have asked others and they couldn’t remember…

MR: I don't see how.

DocFeelQC: Well, they gave off handed remarks like they don’t watch much TV or were busy at the time. I think the whole country stopped for days and it is easier just not to discuss feelings.

MR: Were they living under a rock? LOL, Come On!

DocFeelQC: Fellow porn stars buddy, you tell me....lol

MR: Well you have me there!..lol

DocFeelQC: Let's discuss your movie Another Gay Movie .... How was that?

MR: "Another Gay Movie" was a blast working with Ant was quite the experience.

DocFeelQC: You were great in the movie, I laughed hysterically. I know some frowned on it, but come on it was a total feel-good movie and you were like the chocolate of the film....lol

MR: Yeah, I mean it was to make you laugh. Some people thought it was too stereotypical. Come on, if we can't laugh at ourselves then what's the point?

DocFeelQC: Amen, laughing at ourselves is way better than being made fun of. Life is too short and some people have too big of sticks to ride.

MR: Exactly! Mama always said "A day without laughter is a day wasted."

DocFeelQC: Did you get to meet Richard Hatch? Our infamous Survivor now Federal Prisoner... I get to interview Mr. Hatch later this year. Good thing QC likes orange…lol

MR: Yeah, apparently he didn't get to see the premier of the movie because he went to jail two days prior!

DocFeelQC: How was Graham Norton? You kinda have to love him.

MR: He's so cool. Really funny and a down to earth guy.

DocFeelQC: He always seems it, and he is cute as a button!

MR: Yeah he has a certain sex appeal**evil grin**

MR: Oh really?

MR: Doing theater has helped with my "comedy."

DocFeelQC: Was this movie different for you to do than others? I think it has HUGE GAYVN potential.

MR: Oh yeah, I never murdered anyone in a movie or shot a sawed-off shot rifle before.

DocFeelQC: LOL, Speaking of acting, you are doing more mainstream work than others cursed by adult fame. Would you like to continue that?

MR: Yeah I would. I love acting period. I want to be the Jenna Jameson of gay porn….lol or Tracy Lords

DocFeelQC: Become the next Van Damme of action movies, the “Buffer” Gay Bond?

MR: Just don't expect me to do the Van Damme splits.

DocFeelQC: LOL, Now come on, with a little practice....lol

MR: Forget it! It was bad enough having Erik Rhodes push my legs behind my head in Heaven to Hell!

DocFeelQC: Oh! What a GREAT Scene though! Greg, can we jump to a dark segment for a moment?

MR: Sure thing

DocFeelQC: I know all about the bullshit forums and the attacks you took personally and professionally due to your ex's.

MR: Oh Yeah **sad face**

DocFeelQC: I saw you took it with maturity and professionalism, but knowing your soft side it had to hurt.

MR: Sure it hurt, I mean I loved these guys. Love causes us to do stupid things at times. I tried to take the high road and not let it effect me. It's easier to hate someone to get over them faster.

DocFeelQC: I truly felt people were being silly. I mean come on, so you’re celebrity, that doesn't mean you aren't human. Relationships, break ups they are messy and sometimes painful, but normal.

MR: I agree. It happens and we have to learn form them and move on.

DocFeelQC: How are your friendships with them now, better I hope?

MR: Yeah, I am friends with my ex's. It's silly not to be friends especially when we had invested so much time in the relationships

DocFeelQC: Agreed, which leads me to Tyler...

MR: Ah Tyler

DocFeelQC: He is beautiful and you both just shine together... Give the fans your take on the love you share. Why is this one working so well?

MR: You know, Tyler is one of those guys that you immediately click with. We both have the same twisted sense of humor and we understand each other. Tyler is very laid back. There is no competition between us when it comes to our careers.

DocFeelQC: I totally see you being a daddy. You have this overwhelming nurturing love inside.

MR: He's the daddy, he has all the chest hair!!

DocFeelQC: LOL, I have heard that from so many close to you. I keep hearing this one is the ONE.

MR: Yeah, I'm very content. Tyler is an amazing guy and anyone would be lucky to have him in their life.

DocFeelQC: Awww, now that’s the Greg love.......

MR: LOL, there goes that tough masculinity thing out the window....LOL

DocFeelQC: Greg, what do you want your fans to know about you that they don't know right now?

MR: I guess that I'm an everyday person with the same problems and concerns as everyone else.

DocFeelQC: Be helpful if fans stopped placing you guys on HUGE pedestals and saw you as one of them?

MR: You hit the nail on the head. We play characters on film. We are human beings with feelings and emotions and we eat carbs! lol

DocFeelQC: I am lucky to meet you guys and I know that your “on-screen” persona is only a part of who you are. You guys are just like me, just like them. Life doesn’t come easy, it has pitfalls and we all do our best.

MR: That's true

DocFeelQC: What's in your immediate future for the fans to watch for?

MR: The Velvet Mafia will be out soon and I just shot a film a few months ago called Riding Hard. It's a cowboy themed movie. We actually ride horses! LOL. I will also be in Austin from Sept 21-Oct 29 doing the play "Psycho Beach Party"

Favorite color: Burnt Sienna

Food: This is gross....Dipping my Wendy's French fries in my Frosty! It's the best!

DocFeelQC: I do that!!!!!! OMG, LOL

MR: We just seriously bonded…lol

Shoe size: According to the magazines, I would wear a size 12-13 if you know what I mean. Truth be known, I wear a 10

Boxers or briefs: briefs

Favorite childhood scent: Fresh-cut grass or the smell of pine like a Christmas Tree
