Whatever Happened To Porn With Plots

In this fast-phased world where the internet can be super fast and everyone is busy with career growth, only a few can actually get themselves a good vacation or even a day’s off for relaxation. Same goes with getting extra critical with pornography. Sometimes, we ditch a meal course and go directly to dessert. And by that I mean, we skip to the cumshot and rarely watch the build-up of a porn scene.

Admit it. With over a million porn selections, it’s very difficult to find “that scene” that will make our wank session worth it. And when you see that guy you know you’ve been wanting to jack-off too, you drag the seek bar and hurriedly skip to the latter part only learning that the money shot is absurd and lame. I bet you can relate. But does anyone still watch porn with plots nowadays?

The answer is yes. And there will always be. I happened to stumble upon a subreddit called r/gaypornwithplot where they share ideas and movies which obviously what the subreddit name is suggesting. With over 10K subscribers, they subreddit is still very much alive with at least a contribution per day. Or is it?

Titles are from “Married man wants a ‘discreet boyfriend experience‘”, “Room Service” to “Hey Daddy Here To Serve You My Son!” because why not? Who does not want any taboo themes in their porn? Situations you may never get involved with (especially incest) in your lifetime. How ’bout getting someone superior fuck you. Say a teacher or your baseball coach? These fantasies are always going to get audiences that’s why studios still produce these kinds of erotic clips.

It was not that long when gay porn emerged in the 70s where people needed to use their imaginations to use their favorite model’s nudes and animate them in their minds. Same goes with erotica and other explicit reading materials. What a better way to clash these ideologies is by getting them on films. Wakefield Poole’s Boys in the Sand is one of the pioneers of this motion picture genre. The artistic approach of the movie does not really hinder audiences to have their attention be panned to its explicit content (which by the way is nothing compared to how hardcore today’s porn movies are). But the narrative played a big part of its plot and earned its legacy in the homosexual cinema.

In the 80s, people may have gotten tired of the cliches and started exploring the male anatomy more closely. A William Higgin’s pre-condom classic “Preppy Summer” did not waste any time showing fresh flesh. Opening it with a montage of sexy body parts, it then followed it up with a model jacking-off to two other actors fooling around outside in the pool. And what happened afterward is straight up gay porn.

The format has continued to be popular in the 90s and stayed that way because industries are in a rush and so as the people. We did not have time for long stories especially when home videos rose and people wanted to get the most out of what they have paid for. In this case, no one would sit around and rent over an hour-long porn if its 40 minutes would just be filled with “nonsensical” storyline as for how “people on the go” would describe it.

With the rise of reality shows in the early 2000s, the same format has also been emulated since by porn studios in general. And just like reality TV, mainstream gay porn has become more cliche this time. Like where a blindfolded straight man gets lured into getting a blowjob he thought is being given by a woman but will fuck the guy anyways in exchange of money, gay-for-pay casting couch, orgies in fraternity initiations, etc… Well, you can say what you want to say but there is still a “plot” in each of these formats. And these “plots”, despite redundant, are still bringing some of our wildest fantasies to life. Straight guys getting tricked or muscular men having sex with a lesser attractive guy, these are still devices that are very effective nowadays.

The next decade has become more accepting to amateur contents and seems like the amateur the footages are shot, the better it delivers the rawness of the clip. With camcorders becoming handier and smartphones with cameras can instantly turn you into a porn director, most millennials who were exposed to gay porn in this age were like more appreciative of what they see in the mainstream. Why would you even bother watching bad actors in porn with plots when their acting is trash in the first place? Plus they came for the action and cumshots anyways so fuck it. Who does need a plot when you can go to the anal directly? Plus it’s something that may have also been making the “Hookup Culture” nowadays. Everybody seems to be moving quickly now.

Preppy Summer is a point that lies in the transitional period of gay porn films from a classically creative presentation of coitus to full artistic abandonment. You can even see that a musical score was composed particularly for the motion picture. That effort you can now barely see in porn along of course the plot itself. But at the end of the day, aesthetic can still be subjective and preferences will always prevail.

But do you think that plots in porn are still that important? Has it been long dead? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
