Edison Chen finally returned to Hong Kong and held a press conference at 3pm in Kowloon World Trade Centre yesterday. Apart from apologising to the girls involved in the epic sex scandal, and to all of Hong Kong, Edison announced that he will quit Hong Kong showbiz for an "indefinite period".

We're interpreting this as Edison's intention to stay in showbiz, but not in Hong Kong. So expect to see him in Hollywood (or Bollywood?). Who knows? Once Hong Kong moves on from this scandal to the next, he may be back in one piece.

Also, much to the chagrin of detractors, he said he will devote himself to charity/volunteer work while he clears his mind. The public now suggests in mockery that Edison should donate his sperm at a sperm bank!

Here's the full statement:

Today I have come back to Hong Kong to stand before you and account for myself. I have never escaped from my responsibility. During the past few weeks, I have been with my mother and my family and my loved ones to show support and care and at the same time to have them support and care for me.

I admit that most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent.

There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos have them uploaded on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this. In this regard, I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry. I would like to also apologize to my mother and my father for the pain and suffering I have caused them during the past few weeks. Most importantly, I would like to say sorry to all the people of Hong Kong. I give my apology sincerely to you all, unreservedly and with my heart.

I know young people in Hong Kong look up to many figures in our society. And in this regard, I have failed. I failed as a role model. However, I wish this matter will teach everyone a lesson. To all the young people in our community, let this be a lesson for you all. This is not an example to be set for you.

During my time away, I have made an important decision. I will whole-heartedly fulfill all commitments that I have to date. But after that, I decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months. I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely. There is no time frame.

I have been assisting the police since the first day the photos were published and I will continue to assist them. After this press con., I have obligation to help them with their investigation and hope that this case can end soon as everyone I think has the same wish.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank the police for their hard work on this case. Thank you. I believe everyone's priority now (and) my priority now is to stop the suffering and pain, for not letting this...we do not want to let this situation become more out of control. We need to protect all the innocents and all the young from matters like this. In this regard, I have instructed my lawyers to do everything possible within the law to protect all the innocents, victims of this case. I believe that a press statement is being issued as we speak on what my lawyers have advised me to do.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for coming here today and listening to what I have to say. I would like to also apologize once again to all the ladies and their families, my family and to everyone in Hong Kong and everyone in our society. I am deeply saddened by this. And I apologize to everyone (who) has to go through this. I would like to also thank you for giving me this opportunity to say what I have wanted to say all along in my heart.

I hope, after today, I can have your forgiveness. With regard to this case, with everything, everything that has happened, I am deeply sorry. I hope you all accept my apology and give me a chance.

So it seems like we've come to the end of the roller coaster ride, boys and girls. Word has it that "Kira" got his money and is unlikely to appear again. Which is why it's all quiet on the scandal front (apart from a bogus Maggie Q picture yesterday) we'll probably never see the other two-thirds of what's residing on Edison's hard(!)drive, including that much awaited video.

Perhaps that's why Gillian Chung was all composed during the press conference.

But you know how it works as far as extortions go right? They start all over again once the money runs out. Whatever it is, much damage has been done. Careers and marriages ruined. Bobo's wedding has been canceled, whereas Cecelia Cheung and Nicholas Tse is said to have vacated their home and agreed to a separation. Edison Chen will be returning to Hong Kong from the States very soon, and we'll see what sort of closure we can get.

Edison Chen's Manhattan Titanium credit card ad campaign has been pulled. It's estimated that this scandal may cause Edison HK$10 million $1.3 million US) in endorsements.

As for Cecilia Cheung there were more pictures of her released yesterday suggesting she was with both Edison and her current husband, Nicholas Tse, at the same time. Oops!

New developments! "Kira" announced at about 2300 hours last night that the much-awaited Gillian Chung Edison Chen sex video will be released simultaneously when Gillian goes ahead with her press conference today (she did with Twins bandmate Charlene Choi by her side, see video clip of conference here. She appeared very composed, even smiling, and said she was "young and naive" but has "grown up" now).

The message was posted in the Tianya.cn forum and "on the behalf" of "Kira". The post subject also noted that "Kira" wasn't in Hong Kong and he wasn't extorting money from those involved. this is to rebuke earlier reports that I am extorting money (HKD 5,000,000). Apparently what Hong Kong's "big brother" Jackie Chan said today in an interview (who pleaded netizens to ignore the photos and show care for those affected by the China snowstorms which were more pressing issues) made Kira very unhappy.

He even goes on to say that Jackie is somewhat implicated in the video. It is rumoured that what's most shocking are not the photos themselves, but the men's voice in the video. Edison Chen was said to ask Jackie Chan, "Big Brother, who is stronger between us?"

The official website of Emperor Entertainment Group, brainchild of Albert Yeung, has been hacked by by someone called Blspi. Albert Yeung is apparently very furious over Edison Chen whose sex photos scandal has caused three naked bathing photos of Vincy Yeung (Albert's beloved niece who is still a student) to leak on the internet.

The message written in Chinese is a plea for the Emperor Entertainment Group to make more entertaining movies, as the number of quality offerings are dwindling in recent years, including in Hong Kong.

We're entering into the 13th day of the sex scandal. After yesterday's no-show from "Kira" (who promised more photos and a video release), perhaps due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, 4 more sets of photos were leaked today, mostly of Gillian Chung (more shots of her in a black lingerie with a new set with her in a white bra and panties. Plus a few more of her nibbling on Edison's nuts) and more explicit photos of Cecelia Cheung (we'll spare you the labia splitting... er... spread).

Netizens are saying Edison must have taken Gillian's photos from 2001-2006. One of Cecilia's photo exif information suggests that it was taken in June 2005. Bobo's relationship with Edison started from 2001 and ended in 2004. The photos must have been shot between 2002-2003 judging from the arrangement in Edison's room.

We can possibly infer that Edison had relationships with 2 or more starlets at any one point, maybe more.

Idol Asia has the entire set of photos amassed so far.

In the meantime, The various forums in China and Hong Kong are being heavily policed so links do not stay up for long. We're not sure if the video will ever see the light of the day.

Netizens reported today that a video of Edison Chen (陳冠希) and Maggie Q (李美琪) involved in sex acts had surfaced on the web. It was rumoured that the sex tape showed up on a Hong Kong discussion board but was swiftly removed my moderators.

Maggie was widely reported in Hong Kong newspapers to have dated Edison a few years ago. If rumours of the sex tape prove to be true, then Maggie will be the latest female celebrity to be embroiled.

Also, four unverified photos of Jolin Tsai have been making the rounds. We're not too sure ourselves - we see the resemblance but with a much bigger nose and fuller lips - so if it's indeed Jolin, it must be a pre-surgery one!

CNN reports the scandal. Now they are talking about legal implications for Edison himself - whether those photos and videos had been taken with/without the other parties' consent.

Edison has been dropped from his upcoming movie, Jump, and Bobo Chan's wedding has been called off. The unknown woman in the pictures is thought to be Yu Chiu, a Japanese porn star.

Edison Chen originally planned to release his new music album. but that has been shelved indefinitely.

Prior to the scandal, Edison Chen had boasted in an interview last week that his personal wealth was approaching $150 million (HKD).

He also mentioned that he was interested in holding a wedding of the century. "I will have a multi-million wedding, which will take place at a remote location to avoid paparazzi disturbance. Or perhaps I will invite a select number of reporters whom I know well to enjoy the celebration as well!"

Since establishing his own production company and becoming a CEO, Edison's goal was to make $70 million (HKD) this year.

He planned to invest $10 million (HKD) to produce a comedy targeted at teenage audiences. At the same time, Edison intended to participate in two Hollywood movies.

The scandal just keeps ballooning.

More sets of leaked photos of Hong Kong's female starlets have been released online this afternoon, perhaps as a Chinese New Year bumper release. This mystery person, Kira (nicknamed after the lead character from Japanese film "Death Note") is still on the loose and appears hell bent on wrecking more havoc. He's apparently issued a challenge to the authorities to "Catch Me If You Can".

Here are the new stuff:

- 4 more Cecilia Cheung photos (2 of her stuffed with Edison's cock, and ew, very dirty tongue, someone get her a tongue-scraper!) which are from the same set released earlier.
- 4 more Gillian Chung photos including one in a lingerie.
- A set of 47 screenshots from a video with Bobo Chan, Gillian Chung.
- 3 new sets of photos (totalling 251) of 3 unknowns.

Kira has also promised to unleash more to the public tomorrow - a video in 3 parts totalling 32 minutues plus 600 new photos. Oh man, this is one heckavu Chinese New Year reality programme.

Edison Chen (陳冠希) released an official video statement through his lawyers today. It was the first time the star had spoken publicly since the sex photos surfaced on the internet a week ago. In the video message filmed at an undisclosed location, a solemn and tired-looking Edison spoke in English directly to camera in front of a plain wall.

Here's the transcript:

"I've decided to break my silence today and make this statement to the media and to all people involved in this strange ordeal. Recent documents being posted online have been intentionally hurtful and malicious not only to the victims but to our whole community.

"I have already handed matters over to the police and have been assisting them with this case from the first day onwards. Due to ongoing investigations, I am unable to comment any further upon this case.

"The lives of many innocent people have been affected by this malicious and criminal conduct, and in this regard I am filled with pain, hurt and frustration.

"I hereby use this opportunity to apologize to anyone who has been affected by this strange, strange ordeal.

"I now call upon everyone to help and assist the victims of this case. If you have ever downloaded any of these images, please do not forward them to anyone. Please do not send them to anyone. If you are still in possession of these images, I urge you to please destroy them immediately. Let's help the wounded heal their wounds. I urge you to help the victims and not make anything worse."

This too-juicy-to-be-true scandal has seized the attention of Hong Kong and the rest of Asia for the past few days, and it's still panning out like a thrilling Six Flags roller coaster ride at this point of writing!

Apparently Asian hottie Edison Chen (for the clueless: he was in the epic "Infernal Affairs" which was subsequently remade by Martin Scorsese into "The Departed"; and most recently seen in "The Grudge 2", and will soon be making an appearance in the upcoming "Batman: The Dark Knight" in addition to "Jumper" which headlines Hayden Christensen) has been photographing his sexual romps. These photos were "stolen" and posted by an anonymous person who's been releasing juicier pictures (including those of another major HK star, Cecelia Cheung) in installments after the widespread belief that the photos were digital manipulations.

The latest update we received is that the 29-year old culprit has been caught (they raided his pad and found a total of 12 photos residing in his computer). Does that spell the end of the ride?

So the Edison Chen + Gillian Chung (and now Cecelia Cheung, with many other probable prominent female artistes who've been with our notty boy; please refer to Girlfriend Chart after jump) scandal continues its bankroll. From reports we've gathered the photos may have been leaked/copied when Edison's Mac laptop (he's an Apple fanatic) was sent for repairs. This may just be the tip of the iceberg with many more photos. Most recently, there's a mention of a 7 second video clip, but QC has not seen it yet.

The Hong Kong authorities have been busy nabbing citizens and bloggers who've been disseminating the photos with their Indecency Act. At this day and age, the internet poses tough challenges due to the magnitude of the info explosion.

The latest photo released on the internet after Cecilia Chung was shockingly revealed to be Hong Kong singer, Joey Yung. However it was quite evident that was a Photoshop job with the awkward angle of her head. For the next few days, we're expecting more of these digital manipulations to surface as netizens start having a field day spinning tales to gain eyeballs. Word has it now that the best of them all, Maggie Q is being saved for the last. The world awaits with bated breath.

Edison revealed in a 2006 interview that he lost his virginity at 13 and that his favourite exercise is "having sex".

Rumours are rife that the marriage of Cecilia Cheung and Nicholas Tse is on the rocks over the scandal. However, Patrick Tse, Nicholas's father, has refuted these rumours. A spokesman for Cecilia said the actress hopes the culprit will be apprehended soon. She also dismissed rumours of her marriage turning sour and said their relationship was good, and thanked everyone for their concern.

There has also been talk that Gillian Chung (who was embroiled in another scandal earlier last year involving stealth shots taken backstage when she was performing in Malaysia) had attempted suicide following the scandal.
