Erection '08: Gays For McCain
Move over Log Cabin Republicans! Here are a few "real American" gays who aren't happy that Republican presidential nominee John McCain disagrees with his VP, Sarah Palin's endorsement of the Federal Marriage Amendment. Hell no, they're ready to do away with marriage, adoption, hate crimes legislation, butt sex, fairness, and happiness all together! Won't you join them?

Although I believe we live in a free country and therefore people should vote for whomever they choose, it has always boggled my mind that there are people who feel with a little behavior modification that they will win the respect of a party that has made it known ATLEAST within the last 8 years that they don't want you. Sure, they'll take your vote, but if you think they will rally your cause, you are very mistaken. I've never understood how the GLBT community or people of color can vote Republican when that party has done little to nothing to create any unity in this country. I see it as nothing more than a status symbol, or for people who harbor such hatred in their hearts for people who are different than they are, that they would identify with this party and ultimately vote against their best interests. I'm not saying that all Republicans are bad, there ARE moderate Republicans who are fiscally conservative and socially liberal...but that type of Republican isn't on the ticket is it?
You had me at first. I thought oh my god, where did they find this self loathing bunch? But then I got the satire.
But ain't it scary I thought these people could actually exist. What kind of country do we live in that enables that thought?
Just to make it clear for all, Barack Obama attended a church for over 20 years that openly and overtly espoused homophobic beliefs and actions. Just listen to the words of Jeremiah Wright on the subject. As well, Joe Biden made it patently clear that both he and The One are NOT in favor of gay marriage. They do believe in equal rights on all issues related to the legal status of gays and lesbians. And, in the Vice Presidential debate, Sarah Palin openly and overtly agreed with Senator Biden when the question was raised. The Republicans may not be the best friends of the gay community, but nor are the Democrats. If they were, the issue would be a non-issue as equality laws would have been passed not only in the past two years of their control of Congress, but also during the first two years of the Clinton administration, when they were in control of Congress and the White House. Now that the Democrats will most likely get a supermajority in the House, Senate, and in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, do you really think there will be a sudden turnaround in all issues that affect the gay community? If so, I fear you are sadly mistaken. The Democrats simply take advantage of the gay vote, much as they do with the African-American and Jewish votes, and then do nothing to further any of these groups' causes. As for being self-loathing, I'm afraid that this is completely wrong in most cases. Gay Republicans identify with that party because they are not one-issue voters. As one myself, I can say that I am fiscally conservative and don't believe that socialism is the solution. At the same time, I am pro-choice, pro-environment, and pro-gay marriage, among other social issues. This is the way that most gay Republicans think and vote. Lastly, the kind of country we live in is one that not only allows, but encourages, dissenting opinion. Remember the First Amendment? Oh yeah, I forgot, the left wing only favors free speech if the speech is what they believe. Hypocritically, this is the very same thing of which they accuse the right wing.
