UPDATE: Dustin Lance Black Responds

We imagine that the Milk screenwriter's PR person must have had an aneurism fielding calls about the bareback sex pics of the Oscar winner released yesterday. Well Mr. Black has finally responded. Most importantly, he's confirmed that the blondie in the pics is in fact him and not some other California look-alike. Here's the rest of his statement via The Advocate.
Three year-old photos of Milk writer Dustin Lance Black engaged in what appears to be unsafe sex popped up on the internet Friday - but they wont stand in the way of the Oscar winner's work in support of gay rights.
"It is unfortunate that individuals and other outside parties are trying to profit from material which is clearly private," Black said in a statement released E! Online's Marc Malkin Friday afternoon. "I have had the privilege to speak to people across the country, both gay and straight, on a number of critical issues including safe sex. More important than the embarrassment of this incident is the misleading message these images send. I apologize and cannot emphasize enough the importance of responsible sexual practices."
According to Malkin, the photos are of Black and someone he was dating at the time. Black's lawyers are said to be seeking legal action to stop distribution of the pics.
Confidentially, dear QC readers, we kinda don't give a shit. He's a grown adult and smart enough to know that if you're gonna videotape yourself having sex, it's gonna end up online. Secondly, to bareback or not's a personal choice. One hardly does a sex tape in hopes of becoming a role model and so crucifying him about safe-sex on top of taping his O-face seems uselessly besides the point. Anyone who sees barebacking and then goes out and does it "because Dustin Lance Black did," has a lot more problems than poor taste in role models.

As usual here we are tearing another 'Out' Spoken gay man down. No wonder so many of us stay in the closet. I am a huge fan of QC and actually agree with your handling of the story. I do hope however that Mr. Black in the future will pick better friends and lovers.
There were apparently only two people at this filming. Certainly Black didn't leak the pictures which leaves the other party who most likely did leak the pictures. How about we have HIS name? Perhaps he would like the same attention and treatment?
Who made that comment just after the quoted piece? Whoever said it, my thoughts exactly.
I don't think anyone cares that he has a sex tape out. When Chris Pine's sex tape is leaked then I'll get excited.
Also wanted to say that the behavior of those who are so vehemently against "bareback" in light of this shows how deluded a small clan of them are. Here is a person who advocates safe sex publicly yet, in his personal relationship engaged in sex without a condom. (happens quite often too, I'd bet) Imagine that - a person being against wanton unsafe sex, but not against condomless sex at any and all times. Oh, could it be it be because the world isn't black ans white and condomless sex doesn't mean unsafe sex ipso facto and vice versa?
True to recent fashion, Dustin Lance Black has proven to be honest, honorable, intelligent, admirable and unafraid. I have increasing admiration for him.
One of the greatest young voices of our time, Black is talented and earnest. I really am glad to have seen pictures of him nude, because he's gorgeous all over.
All that physical beauty and brains and soul in one package. I'm floored.
Hm. I'm not really that into gay politics so I'm not sure how important this guy is to the community, but I think it's just an unfortunate situation. I hope this blows over and have people move on.

If this didn't come from Black himself, why would QC even post it? This only creates fodder for the uptight, left-wing nut jobs out there. He's one of us...why throw him under the bus? QC should have better scruples than that. And we wonder why the gay community can't establish a united front.

I do not understand the intense desire of gay people to humiliate other gay people by means of disclosure of confidential photos/videos. It seems that each time someone gay obtains an accomplishment or makes inroads to acceptability into "straight" society, we seem intent to tear them down with anything that could possibly raise some scandal. This happened with the Mayor of Portland. A variation on this occurred with the young wrestler from Nebraska. I didn't realize that gay people would be so cannibalistic. It needs to stop.
I think I speak on behalf of everybody ever when I say that this situation would be rectified best, if Dustin created another sex-tape, shot in HD with multiple angles, positions and condoms - you know, to emphasise the importance of safe sex...or something.
Everyone should have the right to engage in the type of practice that they would like to enjoy the most. However coming into the spotlight these so called "Celebrities" should realize the impact they make on culture regardless of generalized labels. I don't think that he should be looked at as a bad person for what he did, as long as it was consensual between the others involved and they DO know the risk that equates with BB. On another note that includes the porno studios that do not think of their models first by making testing included in every shoot that they do. Times are not the same and everyone should be thought of...... HIV-AIDS is not a laughing matter and this to me is just another example of people not thinking. Regardless of talent or the equivlical mind behind Mr. Black celebrities are held at a higher status than the rest of us. He should be a rolemodel!!
