He spoke with our QColumnist, Steve Prince, at the 2008 Cybersocket Awards:

"Oh, I know QueerClick," he said. "You're the site that's always dogging me." This last part he said with a smile almost as if joking; yet I heard a hint of truth.
"Sugar," I said, (yes, I called Cody Cummings "sugar"), "I never dogged on you. Now my readers might have, but that's their opinion."
Truthfully, I wanted to say, "if you'd just take it up the ass and get it over with, you'd have so many fans beating off to you that it'd create enough electricity to power a small island for a week."
Steve has a point... if Cody went a little further with men, his haters might turn into his biggest fans and he might turn into a very wealthy man—so why the hesitation? We caught up with him last week to talk with him about his personal limits, his love of Tommy D, the difference between shooting gay, bi, and straight sex scenes, and how he feels about all his haters.
QC: How and why did you decide to start CodyCummings.com?
CODY: CodyCummings was started because some great people believed in me. I had done a couple scenes with a girlfriend, then found FCF. They were the ones that thought about it originally. But I was flattered and excited.
QC: What's been the most difficult and most gratifying thing about doing porn (besides the money)?
CODY: The most difficult thing about being in porn would have to be trying to maintain a relationship. There are so many x-factors and temptations to resist everyday. And my personal weakness is some "strange" (pussy I've never fucked). The most gratifying would be the way that it has opened my eyes. The sex, the great people, and I had never been so safe 'til I was in porn.
QC: Despite your videos with men, you identify as straight. You've also mentioned that many other "straight" and "gay-for-pay" actors are really gay. Why bother with such labels, when your on camera work speaks clearly for itself? Doesn't the label risk alienating gay fans or does it serve another purpose?
CODY: K, I've been misquoted over and over on this. I did not say that these guys were gay. People really seem to be offended by the fact that I only do some things with guys. And because of it, I'm either lying, it's a marketing scheme, I'm really gay and just in the closet, or just an asshole. (laughs) When I allow a guy to give me head or do anything to me, I really am going out of my box—every time. I haven't labelled anyone; I hate labels. It's just people can't get over the question: "Why don't you do more with the guys? There has to be something behind it." Everyone seems to know the answer. But why can't it just be? I'm a straight, confident guy that will let a guy give him head—and I'm ok with it. No labels here and I think my FANS can see that.
QC: You've said that your favorite gay porn star is Tommy D. What do you like about him?
CODY: Tommy D is my fave because he is my friend. He is an amazing guy. He did my first scene with me—that's huge. He really puts it down too. Tommy can Fuck—he always makes 'em cum. And we share a lot in life.
QC: Since you have both male and female fans, do you approach your gay or straight scenes differently?

QC: Even though you've done more with a guy than most of our straight friends would be comfortable with, you still get a lot of flack for not doing more with the men in your videos. Do the negative comments ever get to you?
CODY: I try not to let the haters get to me, but I'm human and some seem to find their way in a little. I'll think about it here and there, but I know the world is filled with haters—it's all motivation in the end.
QC: Though you've acknowledged that you enjoy getting head from a gay guy, you've also said you're more likely to put on a strap-on then ever blow a guy yourself. We understand setting personal limits, but what would it take for you to loosen this rule? We're sure tons of prospective subscribers and fans would gladly repay you for your adventurousness!
CODY: When it comes to me pushing my limits I have to be really comfortable. It takes a special person and I haven't worked with her in awhile. But in comfort like that, I might do anything.

CODY: I want to see CodyCummings.com become a huge success. I want it to be a place for guys and girls to see passionate fucking. I want to blow all stereotypes out the window and break them eveyday. I want to be the straight guy that helps millions of guys become comfortable to try anything they want.
QC: Compared to your other porn peers, you tend to stay out of the spotlight. We respect your desire to keep your personal life private, but a little more publicity might help your site, don't you think?
CODY: I have a blog. You guys said I never blogged??? Have you seen it? And I don't like the limelight—I'm not that kind of guy; I'm a home body. I'm lookin for a chill stoner chick to ride with. Doing porn gets me enough pussy and I do OK myself. I don't want to do anything more. I don't go out that much, I don't do the MySpace thing, and I think that less is more.
QC: What's one thing you wish you could change about the porn business?
CODY: I think everyone should test and use condoms.
QC: What can you tell us about the tattoo on your neck? What does it say, when did you get it, and what's its significance?
CODY: The tatoo on my neck says "family." I put it on my neck to stress the personal importance. It stands for the small handful of people I would die for, my spiritual beliefs, and my anti-religious beliefs!
QC: We know a lot of men and women who'd love if you let your body hair grow a little wild. Why do you keep it so short and what would convince you to go au natural?
CODY: Great question. The chest hair has grown in and we're rockin'. I just don't like it for me. I hear both all the time: "grow it, no don't grow it." And I just got into the habit from stripping. But now it's here to stay for who knows how long.
QC: When do you think you'll know it's time to retire?
CODY: I won't know when it's time to retire. I will go out on top of my game. But I think you'll know.

I think he's mistaking "haters" for people that are really offended by what he does. He's using men's attraction to him while degrading his scene partners to merely mouthpieces at the same time! I just think Cody Cummings as a performer is like watching paint dry. If that make me a "hater" so be it. I personally enjoy Cody Cummings better than most sites. The layout is consistent. The pictures are very well organized and taken. And he has regular updates. And there is a blog. That's a lot more than most places can offer. And he's cute.
I subscribe and enjoy the boundaries that he does test. I enjoy taking time to read and learn more about him, his style, and his way to satisfying an audience. If you just want quick jerk and just wanna see two men boning, their brains out, then do the rest of us a favor...go to a different site, versus spending the time read check the post, read a long article on QC, then gripe like you do every time QC does a post on it. If you don't like it, don't look at it. By now, you should know the limits and know the deal with him and his site.
At the end of the day, there is a market he is catering to. And he's found it. He's doing what he wants making the money he wants. He doesn't have to conform because some people just want to see him go at it with another guy. It affects the emerging markets of the demographics he is going for. And because people gripe about it, someone else is going to think, "Let me check it out." Then he has another viewer and another subscriber.
So, for the "haters" and pretty much the REST of the comments, spend your energy and passion on the economy or world peace or going green or gay marriage, not on some straight dude who won't take it up the butt.
Does Cody post on Straight websites? No. He knows which side is buttering his bread.
Other posters such as caleb and Blah! were also bothered by the "let" and "allow" phrasing. BAD choice of words there, Mr. Cummings.

Umm Todd, you don't see homophobia but you see heterophobia? On the surface, I'd go for the former. But truthfully, there is neither happening here. I do see degradation, but it's not Cody's fault. If anyone is sad it's the guys that are participating with Cody. For the record, Cody didn't say that most gay for pay stars were gay, *I* said that when I interviewed him for my own blog and he agreed that some of them probably were or at least weren't 100% straight.
