QC Open Forum: Would You Put Ants In Your Pants?

Prepare for the hibbie jibbies! A recent viral video from Thailand in which you can see a man dumping a full nest of fire ants on his genitals triggered many questions here at the QC headquarters. From the man’s reaction on the vid we take he did not enjoy the experience at all. The bite of the fire ant causes a pain described as “sharp, sudden, mildly alarming. Like walking across a shag carpet and reaching for the light switch.” Now imagine that all over your crotch area, a place where nervous terminations are quite sensitive!

With that in mind we need to consider that certain individuals are capable of derive pleasure from those kind of experiences. That paraphilic behaviour has a very specific name: Formicophilia, a form of zoophilia, described as the sexual interest in being crawled upon or nibbled by insects, such as ants, or other small creatures. Believe it or not, there are many sexual tales of arousal from stinging insects, and even a couple of urban legends that pop every now and then like the story of a man that died while trying to “have sex with a hornets’ nest” The practice seems to be incredible rare, or at least people who like it are not very vocal about it.
