Avril Lavigne’s new preppy and poppy single will be incomprehensible to some, but not because of her new hard-core Beverly Hills HS cheerleader slut look (that’s a mouthful).
The single “Girlfriend” has been released in 8 different languages, including a wild-ass Mandarin version. Word on the street and industry is that Lavigne worked her Canuk ass off with a language coach to make sure that every word and intonation was correct.
Girlfriend debuted at number one on Japan’s international and domestic charts, which we hear is something unheard of for an English-speaking artist. We also hear that she’s promoting her music through a Japanese-style manga comic, “Make 5 Wishes,” which will distributed via cellphone. If any of our Japanese friends grab it, let us know.

The half-American and half-Filipino left a promising future in the USA to live the simple life in the Philippines. The video (taken when he was still in school in the States) above is a result of an assignment he did for his Psychology class (project was on Catharsis, but we’re not quite sure what form of relief that served for David. Hey, whatever floats your boat right?). David sings off-key for the most part, and we admit some parts did make us cringe. God knows what Simon Cowell will say of it? But it’s apparent from this video that he’s a boy who ain’t afraid to give it all he’s got. We applaud his spirit.

The music video for Ken Hirai’s latest single “哀歌 (エレジー)” was promoted to be one to look out for as it was to show the Japanese pop star (who’s long been rumoured to be gay) naked. He had apparently “trained up” in preparation for baring it. QC checked out the video with much anticipation but was severely let down. What Naked? You could barely see anything below his collar bones!! Maybe Ken didn’t train hard enough.
