I've got a little situation that I'm hoping you can help me sort out. About 10 months ago I met a guy on the internet that we'll call Wilbur. He's 10 years older than me, (I'm 20, he's 30). So basically he's given me no reasonable excuse as to why he's pretty much dumped like a sack of potatoes. This has had such a negative effect on my self esteem and has made me feel more rejected than I ever have in my life. Why over-analyze it? Wilbur was there for you when you needed someone and both of you knew nothing more was ever going to come of it. Some people enter our lives only for a short period. In your case it is 10 months. It could be Wilbur really is busy or he feels the connection you shared is no longer there. The age difference could leave one or the other feeling like there isn't much in common. This in no way is a reflection of you. It doesn't mean you're bad or not worthy of his friendship. Sometimes things are just what they are and I believe this is one of them. Take all the good that has come from being friends with him and use it to continue to catapult yourself further in socializing and being the happier person you have become. Never look for excuses to take you back to that dark place of depression. That was not a good place and you know that. Keep the light in and focus on making new friends and relationships. Putting all your eggs into one basket is never a wise choice. One slip and that whole basket could be destroyed. It's similar to building a house made of straw in a valley prone to forest fires. Wise choices, healthy thinking and making good friends will keep you on solid ground my friend. Just don't lose sight of your well being along the way.

I agree you seem to be over analyzing everything instead of allowing yourself to enjoy what is. If it is meant to be it will be. You torturing yourself by examining every detail isn’t going to speed it up, but only end up causing unwarranted drama. A person is never truly happy until they appreciate who they are as an individual. You should never allow your feelings of happiness, joy and contentment to revolve around another person. That alone is you giving control of your life over to the hands of another. Find happiness and appreciation within yourself and everything else will fall into place.
Do things and involve yourself in things you enjoy and are good at. Build on your self esteem and reinforce that inner you. A trick I learned way back in undergraduate school is journaling. Set aside some “you time” at the end of each day and journal your daily giving’s and misgivings. Make two columns, one column is titled, “What I did today that makes me proud.” The other is titled, “What I didn’t like that I did today and solutions to not make the same mistake(s).” This gives you the chance to take inventory in your life and help the inner you with healing and growing.

I've got a pretty bad problem, and i hope you can give me some advice. Almost 2 years ago I met what I thought was the man of my dreams. This is a person I thought I knew, but it turns out, as my friend said, it's a case of Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde. When I confronted him about it, he claimed he has an addiction to the sites, but has not hooked up with any of these guys, but craves the attention he gets online. He says it's all based on his insecurities and that he loves me. I don't know what to think or do, can I ever trust him? How could I believe him that he hasn't hooked up? I feel so used and violated, do you think I should stay with him if he agrees to get help? I'm so lost and heart broken, can you help?

Lets break this down:
1. You have known him for two years.
2. The ad(s) are looking for hook ups with pics.
3. He has an addiction (stated as either fact or an excuse)
4. He craves “online attention.”
There is an old adage that states, ”If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is probably a duck.” You know him, you know your heart, following your heart with this. After two years, his profession and finding all the evidence any CSI crime lab would need to convict should tell you all you need to know. The hard part is that you love him. Big guy, you have to make choices that you can live with and accept for the long term. There is no quick fix to mend a broken heart or trust, it comes with honestly, working together, good communication and a willingness to fix what is broken. You have every right to protect your heart. You have to decide if the damage is beyond repair or if this is worthy of fixing. I highly suggest couples counseling because the problem(s) aren’t just his. You should make your position very clear to him and if he accepts the terms wonderful, but if he doesn’t, I believe that in itself speaks volumes. You can’t fix something broken without an attempt.

1. When I came out a few years ago, I was jobless and participating in the circuit circles. I also fell hard for "Shane." Making a long story short - I moved to a different state because I couldn't stand this off and on bullshit. Since then I've gotten myself settled. No more circuit. A good job and even a home. Well I say 100th time because friendship leads to trouble and usually with the Europe boy forbidding us to be friends. But cutting ties always leads to a few month of silence and then back on the phone getting each other off. Its a no win situation.
The question I have for you is not whether Shane and I will ever get back together or if Shane loves me or not. The answers to those questions are as obvious as they are unfathomable. Only time will tell.
The question is how do I remain friends with a person that is so important to me and that I want in my life when there is so much drama and tension and passion involved? How do I remain friends with a person who cares about me so much but then is so willing to toss me and my feelings to the side whenever Europe boy finds out. The answer seems to be - DONT BE FRIENDS. LOSE THE LOSER. but how I can just erase someone whom I truly love and who is truly a part of me and who does care for me underneath it all. Isn't there a way of preserving?

I am happily attached and enjoy a very loving relationship right now. My boyfriend (he's quite a few years older than me) and I have been together for 8 years now.
