Stadio dei Marmi

In the early 1930's Benito Mussolini built the Foro Mussolini in Rome. The Stadio dei Marmi, or Stadium of Statues was crowned with 60 statues of the masculine form, both athletic and mythological. The statues, most in various states of undress, and some nude, survived the ravages of WWII. Often associated with their facist roots, these statues are a testament to an ideal man, a vision of perfection, and are supremely homoerotic.

Well that puts a whole new meaning on the term "rock hard" doesnt it? lol! Hey but seriously its an interesting post, it looks like there were some very hot models around at that time too :)
WOW! ROCK HARD IS AN UNDER STATEMENT. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS NEO-CLASSIC SCUPTURE OR THE STADIUM...THANK FOR THE BEAUTY, HISORY AND ART. PERHAPS YOU COULD INCLUDE AN OCCASIONAL EXAMPLE OF HOMOEROTIC ART OF THE AGES ON THE QC SITE. GAY ART IN PAINTING, ENGRAVING, SCULPTURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT...QC COULD CHANGE THAT. BRING THE HOMOEROTIC CLASSICS OUT OF THE CLOSET? A. BEARDSLEY?? THERE MUST BE SOME GREAT STUFF WE'VE NEVER VIEWED AND SHOULD. ARTISTICALLY STARVED QC PATRON...OH,WELL,JUST A SUGGESTION.
i am mad, i studied over there for a little bit and i don't remember ever seeing that when i use to live in rome. the statues are hot....is it wierd to say that i am turn on by them? HAHA
I agree with Danny its good to see some other interesting stuff on here aswell :)
um, dudes, like that's fascist art. hot yes, but would you feature a stadium built by hitler or pol pot?
Art can imply a thousand meanings. Sure, you chose the implication of fascism in the early 20th Century, Queerclick likes to see it as a large depictation of male form.
I think art can always be appreciated, because I chose to look past the surface.
Interesting points, as a struggling artist I sometimes take work that is commissioned by a client who I wouldnt necessarily agree with politically or ideologically. I wonder if in years to come my work would be considered republican because of the era the work was created in? I hope not!
