David "Coconuter" Eric Poarch

We're totally in love with David Eric Poarch aka The Coconuter, no less 'cos he could easily pass off as a Freshmen or CorbinFisher model (doesn't he resemble Cody/Andy Honda/Britton a lil?).
The half-American and half-Filipino left a promising future in the USA to live the simple life in the Philippines. While most Filipinos dream of leaving the country for a greener pasture abroad, he purposely "jumped off the bridge" to find his niche and purpose in life. Armed with his digital camera, he maintains a blog-cum-travelogue-cum-diary at Adventures of the Cocunuter where he proves that much can be discovered when one has little.
The video (taken when he was still in school in the States) above is a result of an assignment he did for his Psychology class (project was on Catharsis, but we're not quite sure what form of relief that served for David. Hey, whatever floats your boat right?). David sings off-key for the most part, and we admit some parts did make us cringe. God knows what Simon Cowell will say of it? But it's apparent from this video that he's a boy who ain't afraid to give it all he's got. We applaud his spirit.
More videos after the jump.
In this episode of "Nagmamahal, Kapamilya" originally aired on October 21, 2006 at ABS-CBN (Philippines), we get a closer glimpse at the Coconuter's life in the Philippines. But most importantly, we finally see the third dimension of the Coconuter and realize that his is not just an adventure but a search for something we all are hoping to find.
(Thanks Jubal for sharing the goods!)

Life in the PI is hard. Good jobs are hard to come by, there is no medical care, no commerce. I went through the same "what is my purpose" phase and I did something similar but I moved to a country with jobs and opportunities. I'd like to see how long his stay in the PI lasts. Still, good for him to make such a leap.
What's it with bearing the cross through the streets and the thorns about to be made into a crown ?
omg this is so freaking sad. i started crying. what is his website?
such an inspiration.
EDITOR: The website is linked above.
Oh QC thanks so much for sharing this, I'm getting so teary eyed as I write this and replay back the videos. It hit so much close to home.
I'm full Filipino, I was born in the Philippines, moved to USA when I was 9 yrs old. I am now 23. THis has touched me, reminded to look back where I came from, my roots. I still understand Tagalog (Filipino language) very well, David/Coconuter has given a great advice (the last video). He says follow ur heart, do not forget ur love ones. Find urself. My fave: "Let ur free spirit go sometimes..." which I have the hardest time to do.
It touched me so much because I'm still finding myself & struggling w/ life. I've had plenty of success in life (and failures), yet I still don't feel fulfilled. I wish I had David/Coconuter's strength to make that life-changing decision....
Thanks QC
*hugs*

Bearing the cross and thorns as crown is a yearly thing in the Philippines during the lent season, some say they do it to repent, or as sacrifices, something like that,... but they usually do it with their faces unshown.. but who would hide a face like that anyways...

EDITOR: Thanks, spelling bee.
it all boils down to how one defines a happy life...
they say that life is not a matter of chances it is a matter of choices and you David prove that happiness could be found in the hearth of every individual.
there is always more to life!!!
cheers from the Philippines.
