Ask QC: What's Up With Pube Shaving?
Dear QC,
I must be from the "old school", but I would hope not at 47. I would like input from members as to why it is so popular for guys to shave their pubes!! I personally love to see a guy with his natural "bush" in effect and I dont understand what the craze is with the shaving! Can someone tell me definitively what the answer is???????????
Regards,
Caybpu

I HATE it when guys trim their body hair! It's too girly for me. I desire guys who are GUYS, not femmy girls.
For me, it all depends on the guy. I , personally, like to trim myself, by shaving my balls and neatening up everywhere else. I do not like to shave everything, nor do l like to see others that do. It just seems to be a bit to "prepubescent" and "precious" to me. As far as "why" I like to trim, and the guys that do the same.... I find it easier to stay fresher down there, and I am also not a fan of flossing while going down on a guy. This is just my personal preferance... to each his own though.
It seems to be a fad with younger guys for some reason. To me, it looks weird and scary. Why want to look like prepubescent 10 year olds? If you want to trim a little bit, fine, but leave most of the hair there!
ANSWER: a matter of *personal preference*
it's because sometimes it can get so bushy that it can irritate the skin around the penis and also the parters body parts by scratching and it can rub the skin during dry humping etc, i know alot of guys shave and i personlly trim with a #2 and it is more visually appealing to see a guy un-shaved but it is much more sexy etc old school but not very practical, i think it's sexier when a guy trims cause he will make him and his partner more comfortable during 4 play and sex in general and that to me is sexy, plus Bush is so 2000 and Late
i like hairy hot assholes!!
I just recently started "manscaping". I hated seeing guys who's back hair is coming out of their t-shirts so I decided to spruce up my own up game. So now that I've trimmed my back and shoulders, I've trimmed my chest and stomach, balls and between my ass cheeks. I definitely love the new look, but I've found that while all this grooming has helped me to be a bit fresher after a shower, the downside is that during the day I find I'm a bit sweatier than before. You know clothes sticking to you and stuff in the hot weather. Other than that, I think its a win win for me and for him. LOL
Shaving or trimming is hot. I love the look of hairless dick. If you don't like it, don't do it; but quit knocking it.
I'm with Brett on this one, I do it 'cause "man scent" down there is a real turnoff for me. Even a freshly showered fella can still have a musky, funky smell going on down there. I don't need a "perfumy" smell either, just don't want to smell anything at all.
However, I don't think shaving everything is necessary. Just the sac and a nice trim of the bush.
We shave our faces, cut our hair, trim our nails, why not the pubes? I think a little attention down there, even if it's a complete shave, is a plus for a guy.
Im 22 and in high school all the girls shaved and some of the guys did and now every gay man i know at least trims... The reasoning i would say is just being tidy! Gay men and manscaping are like penut butter and jelly.... they dont need eachother but the two have been pairing up for years. If i got downtown to blow a guy and he had that gross coconut hair stickin off his balls and i couldnt give him dirty eyes while deep throating for the forest in the way, id be kinda grossed out... i mean id still do it, but still. I think people just shave it completely cause its easier then constantly pruning and they feel more groomed then the 70's bush that guy is rockin. Leave some hair on it... but really no one wants to burry there face into a pile of damp easter grass.
Same here... triming is the answer, shaving is a bit extrem and if not done well is quite unpleasent.
But the whole jungle deal down there is just gross. it will never be completely clean and the bjing is also discusting.
Trim my friend trim away
i'm more sensitive when i do shave. now the question should be: what do i do when it starts turning gray?!
The waxing place near me does "full Brazilians" and they're popular with body builders. Girls like them. It's just another mode of paying attention to oneself. Of course, like every regimen, there are those who go overboard. Personally, I think clean-shaven pubes on anyone over 30 look immature and vain.
it makes your dick look way bigger, soft or hard.
Personally I don't like it when it's a fucking forest, but all of it gone just feels... prepubescent.
A nice tight trim with the hair very short is the best way to go!
Euan just basically answered the question. It's someone's preference to shave or trim down there, I personally cannot stand when there's a mountain load of hair down there. It gives off a dirty/ugly look. I also don't mind if it's shaved completely, I'll know I'm having sex with a man not a 12 year old, that joke has been overused and exaggerated too many times. Yes, because a man with a shaved pubic area but has a muscular build and chest hair gives off some illusion that you're doing it with a kid. . .some people get turned on with hairy pubes, others do not, simple as that.
I likes me some man dick, and man dick got hair.
I totally agree with the guy asking the question. If I want to be with a pre-pubescent appearing guy, I would worry that I might have secret fantasies about being with kids. Also, it usually looks like floured chicken when a guy is completely shaved.
And Personally, I find the scent of a guys bush a HUGE turn-on when I am blowing him (as long as he has showered that day).
One commenter said that it is too rough and scratchy for your parter to rub against during sex. In my experience, stubble is 100 times more irritating and abrasive than a full out bush.
I think younger guys shave off their pubes because they've been pussified in this culture and they're just doing what society says is sexy for chicks to do. A lot of young dudes don't seem to understand that what makes men sexy is very different from what makes women sexy. Personally, the sight of a guy's pubes is a turn on because it lets me know I'm looking at a private part of his body. And don't even get me started on guys who shave their pits. For me it doesn't make them look prepubescent, it makes them look feminized. If I wanted a hairless body, I'd fuck a woman.
Personally I like some hair, on certain guys, for example I'm attracted to Latin guys, and a little hair turns me on... on a Latin guy! But never on a black guy. I guess it's the way it looks visually. Personally I trim, but I do go prepubescent, that to me is excessive.
Furthermore, why are the guys who're hairy seeming very defensive about this, some guys like to be smooth, others don't it's all on what one likes for oneself!
Of course it's all about personal preference, but I'm firmly in the "trimming" column. At best, it's something about one's physical appearance and self-expression that one can cheaply and easily modify, just like the decision to grow a beard on your face. Worry not, there are still plenty of hairy dudes out there for you!
I've shaved (when I was younger), I've trimmed extensively (fairly recently, but no longer), now I just shave the hairs along the base of my cock (to eliminate chafing while doin' the nasty, it's solely functional, not aesthetic).
I honestly believe shaving everything off can be a sign of psychological/sexual repression (one reason many guys give it up as they mature). Before you rip me a new one (seriously, I'm just the messenger), I also believe it's just a thing for other guys, like having a thing for red hair or gigantuan balls. Hey, if you like that newborn baby look then ... you like that newborn baby look. Enjoy yourself.
But many guys spend their first years of sexuality repressing their feelings and once they find a way to deal with society's problems with homosexuality they have some catching up to do. They may wind up "replaying" what SHOULD have been the natural sexuality of their pubescent years. Hence, not only the fascination with shaving, but also the fascination with youth ("twinks") in general (For some! For some! Not everyone of course). Straight guys can have the same reaction for similar reasons, obsessing over young girls for example.
An EXTREME example of this stunted growth would be pedophilia.
As for the smell, uh, wash? The hair itself isn't causing any smell down there, that comes from sweat and oils and shaving won't eliminate those sources (you don't magically stop producing sweat and oils when you shave). I happen to LIKE a man who smells like a man (first thing I'll do down there is take a deep breath ... Mmmm). Unclean is unclean though.
Hair can cause chafing and can get into places it's not supposed to be (cough), but I'm not sure the amount of time spent to AVOID that is reason enough, on its own, to trim or shave.
The look? It's hair, it's how you're SUPPOSED to look. There are extremes where some manscaping can help you feel more average, if that's what you need. Yes, we shave/trim beards, but that changes with the fashions of the time or location (or religious affiliation). To confuse myself further, while I like natural hairiness, fuzzy balls are superhot; I also like big, soft, hairless balls.
Whatever, huh? :D
I'd be interested to know what the OP thinks of REALLY hairy guys, I mean, like werewolf territory. There are guys who LOVE that, do you find that as inexplicable as guys who like NO hair?
I see the "prepubescent" analogy thrown around a lot. Here's the thing - if you can't tell the difference between a grown, shaved man and a ten year old, you probably shouldn't be having sex.
It's just silly propaganda from the pro-hair side...again. "If you like shaved men, you're a paedophile!" Well you know what, not so long ago people were saying "If you like men, you're a paedophile." So let's avoid going down that road again and just accept the fact that people have different preferences. There's nothing wrong with a little diversity - we queers should understand that. You don't constantly hear the pro-shavers saying "Fucking a guy who doesn't shave is like sticking your dick in a furry marsupial."
It's stupid to say it's how you're SUPPOSED to look. You could say the same thing to mean that you're never supposed to cut the hair on your head. NOTHING on your body should be allowed to simply grow wild. Not your eyebrows, head hair, fingernails and certainly not the pubes. A full bush just says you don't care about your appearance down there, no matter how you look at it. EVERYONE should at least trim. All pubes are different, and need to be treated differently, but I don't know anyone that won't benefit from a neat trim.
An observation.......some of the "pro-shaver" comments are every bit as "rabid" as the "pro-pube" comments. And yes, I have heard "pro-shaver's" make derogatory comments about men who choose to maintain their natural appearance. So, there is definitely bias on both sides of the issue. Why can't we all just get along? :) BTW....the reason so many people "throw around" the "over-used" pre-pubescent label in reference to totally shaved men is that it is true. A grown man has hair on certain parts of his body. Pre-pubescent males do not. Why do pro-shaver's take offense at this observation? I like a man in his naural state for the most part. I do understand trimming unusually heavy amounts of hair on certain parts of the body (back, upper arms, etc.), but I think for someone to feel that they aren't good enough the way they are, naturally, says something about their self-esteem and other related issues.
I just wanted to take a moment to say that I love the readers of QC. I have had more fun in the past 10min reading you guys posts then I have had all day! Anyways im 22, and for me I prefer the trimmed & kept look on my men, and for myself. Not bushy, not bald, but tiddy and groomed.
@Buddy Rougeux: Grown men, like children, also have arms and legs. Guess we'd all better start fucking amputees, just in-case we get confused and turn into paedophiles. ;)
Oh, fer chrissakes---
This is about porn models the writer is seeing. He could not very well be observing that many completely shaved gay guys.
Shaved completely == straight, does it because of girls.
Period--- very rare for gay guys to shave 100% --- makes your dick look like a snake, not a dick.
i like it natural:) let it grow, let it grow, let it grow:)
For most gay guys, trimming and ball-shaving seems to be the current norm. Check out the top porn sites - SC, CF, RB, BA - and note that all the hot models are groomed with an appropriate amount of hair. Bob's right - straight boys in high school shave all the way to please the girls (and to make it easier getting B.J.s).
I very much prefer a man with his natural pubes. I like men with body hair but I can get into a guy with a naturaly smooth body as long as he has bush. I think that it makes a guy masculine to have some body and pubic hair. It realy turns me off to see an adult male with his pubic hair shaved or waxed off and no body hair other than on his head. You're men not little boys. The hair is there for a reason, be proud of it.

It seems like a lot of guys post on QC complaining about shaved and trimmed pubes - not just this thread, but whenever photos are posted that show a guy with a serious trim or no pubes at all.
I think this is really an age/fashion thing. I'm 37, and have dated many guys in college or young 20s. Every single one of them at one time or another has shown up with some serious trimming or a full shave. I think it is just something that the younger set does these days, so there is no point in complaining about it - unless you want to complain about their clothes and other habits as well, and then you are just being grumpy.
One young guy once asked me if he could shave me, and I have to say it was not only a huge turn on to have him do it to me, but also the whole area felt more sensitive so the sex was incredible.
I give myself a trim whenever I think it is getting really too 70s natural, and I'm amenable if a guy I'm seeing wants me to have a certain pube look one way or the other. I guess I have come around to the mentality that it is hot to have a guy prepare himself for sex, and it seems like trimming the bush these days goes hand in hand with any other preparations for getting naked with another guy.
And I hope that clears things up for the original poster. :D
I shave it all at least once a month, feels great during sex and makes cleanup from JO a lot easier. Also feels great under tight clothes like speedos, compression shorts, running tights, etc. My boyfriend is asian and asian pubic hair tends to be very prickly, so i love it when he shaves all the way before he pounds my ass.
I think it's kinda silly when guys shave almost everything but leave a little bush on top, then brag about "I NEVER shave all the way". Right......
Shaved pits are hot too, esp if you like a tongue in there.
Hair is ok but not four inches of ass or pube hair come on.
personal taste!.... as if you like the asian skin, or the latin color of it and well lets just enjoy ourselves being personal and individual...
I know most people hate the look but personally I like the way it feels...like all my skin is exposed and so much more receptive to the touch and arousal without the hair...Also a big factor is the clean feeling..I'm not the hairiest dude in the block but I hate when hair grows on me I feel dirty and smelly though that's not the case..probably its psychological cause I don't mind it the least on other people...actually it's both a delight to rim a hairy or shaved asshole to me and I kind of find manscaping a cute game...Like most size queens would wonder '-will he be packin'?' I wonder '-hmmm he has a belly track so possibly a full bush?' or '-wow toned shaved legs that can only mean one thing..a sweet shaved bubblebutt?'...lol,stuff like that...but no I would never ditch or bitch over someone's hair business that is a little ridiculous..I like variety and surprises...
