Why Is Miami Closing The Cocodorm?

For three years Cocodorm—”The Only Live Black and Latino Dorm!”—has had an ongoing legal battle with the city of Miami over a whether their live webcam house is a residence or a business. The house, located on 27th Street east of Biscayne Boulevard, contains several men who live there and get paid $1,200 a month to get it on with each other on live webcams. The city calls it a business which would forbid it from operating in a residential dorm.
Their first court case found partially in favor of Cocodorm, but 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the City of Miami. Here’s what the judge had to say:

“The activities taking place at the 27th Street residence are part and parcel to Flava Works’ business operations. The fact that certain aspects of the business are performed at other locations does not alter this analysis. Business objectives are the sole reason individuals are paid to live and engage in sexual activities at the 27th Street residence. Flava Works would be unable to deliver content to its subscribers without these endeavors. The activities taking place at the 27th Street residence are a clear violation of the prohibition against operating a business in a residential zone.”

According to the ruling, an adult services business in Miami can only operate in an industrial area with permission from the city, and Cocodorm’s house doesn’t fit that description. We’ll see if that means whether they’ll relocate or contest the ruling. As long as their blatino studs keep sucking and fucking each other, we’ll never notice the difference.
