Jamie Bamber
Born on April 3, 1973 in Hammersmith, London. His father, Ralph, is an American. His mother, Elizabeth, is Irish and she trained as an actress as well. He has 5 brothers and one sister. His parents divorced when he was at university.
The family lived in France for Jamie’s first few years. He attended a bilingual school there until the family moved back to England when he was eight. His mother started a theater group at the American Cathedral in Paris for English speaking children. Jamie’s first part there was that of a woman! He played the wicked witch in the “Wizard of Oz.” Oh my!
Jamie attended St. Paul’s School and then Cambridge University where he received a first-class, Honours Degree in Modern Languages (Italian and French) from St. Johns College, Cambridge. In 1996, Jamie went to the London Academy of Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) where he completed a one year post graduate course.
After leaving LAMDA, Jamie immediately got his first part, the role of Archie Kennedy in A&E’s Emmy award winning “Hornblower” miniseries. Between filming the episodes of “Hornblower,” Jamie took a part in the A&E BBC production of“The Scarlet Pimpernel,” playing Lord Tony Dewhurst.
After Hornblower and Pimpernel, Jamie played Ralph Paton in “Poirot, the Murder of Roger Ackroyd.” After that, came the role of George Talboys in “Lady Audley’s Secret
Jamie reprised his role of Archie Kennedy in A&E’s second series of “Hornblower.” (Sadly his character of Archie died in the end, so he won’t be coming back in future HH films.)
Next came a role in “Band of Brothers,” the Emmy and Golden Globe winning miniseries about WW II, directed by Steven Spielberg, which has aired on HBO and the BBC. He played Lt. Jack Foley.
Jamie finished “Band of Brothers” and went on to film a movie in Scotland called “The Devil’s Tattoo.” (So far the film hasn’t been released, but it is where he met his lady, Kerry Norton. Shame, huh?)
Next came a part in British TV series for ITV “Peak Practice” playing Doctor Matt Kendal. Sadly “Peak Practice” met the axe after 12 seasons.
His next role put him back in uniform, only this time it was a modern uniform, as a member of a crack SAS team in the 6 part series “Ultimate Force” for ITV.
After Ultimate Force, Jamie had the role of Hans Meyrick in the BBC production of George Eliott’s “Daniel Deronda”. Upon completing “Daniel Deronda”, Jamie took on the very challenging role of Prince Hal in the Bristol Old Vic’s production of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV.” (Fans from all over the world made the journey to wish Jamie well in his professional stage debut.)
Jamie likes horseback riding, rugby, golf, scuba diving, tennis and skiing but running is his main sport. He ran the London Marathon in April 2002 finishing in just under 3 hours.
Jamie is married to actress Kerry Norton and they have a baby daughter, Isla.
