The appeal of Asians have been on the rise in recent times and so has the search for photography that captures this niche market interest. THE ASIAN MALE is Norm Yip’s first publication featuring a stunning collection of male images that were taken over a period of five years from 1999 -2004.
With models from Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, the men who appear in this volume will mark a new beginning in Asian male photography. Norm Yip is a Canadian-born Chinese architect turned artist-photographer. His photographs of Asian males have appeared in international publications such as Blue and Dreamboys. Celebrities he has photographed include Zhang Yimou, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Vonda Shepard and Destiny’s Child.
“THE ASIAN MALE” will contain 40 selected images in both colour and black and white prints, all printed using 4-colour process. Measuring 9â€? x 12â€?, the book will be a hard-cover edition using 250 gsm fine art matt paper stock. Enthusiasts for fine art photography will appreciate the exceptional printing quality of this volume, making this a perfect coffee table book and ideal collector’s item.
The book will be officially launched on February 24th in Hong Kong.

Swing, a new non-profit organisation in Bangkok aims to focus its efforts specifically on male sex workers. The organisation is the first to do so after its director Surang Janyam and eight colleagues founded the group last September. Surang is a 17-year veteran who spent her entire professional career at Empower, a local organisation that deals primarily with the welfare of Thailand’s female sex workers.

How much value can a strand of hair command? At least NT$21,400 if it comes from the chest of Taiwanese singer Fei Xiang (Kris Philips).
The 1.9m tall singer gamely allowed Dee Hsu, better known as Xiao S, the wacky half of the duo hosting a popular Taiwanese talk show, to snip off a strand of his body hair.
“I don’t think there is any problem at all removing a strand of my chest hair for charity. To help the victims, you can ask for as many strands as you want,” he told her on the show, Mr Con And Ms Hsi, early this week.
The hair was then placed inside a glass tube. It was put on the eBay auction website on Monday evening with the price starting at NT$1. Within 24 hours, the bidding price had risen to NT$3,250 with 25 bidders. By yesterday, it had increased to NT$21,400 with 59 bidders. Bidding will end next Thursday.
It was certainly a unique way of helping the victims of the tsunami disaster. Fei Xiang has recently refused to answer the media’s incessant enquiries about his sexuality. He said his sexuality is something private and he did not want to discuss that. He has recently released an album of Broadway numbers in conjunction with the Chinese theme song for the movie “Phantom of the Opera”. After enjoying relative success in Asia in the 80s, he uprooted and spent a few years in Broadway, laid low in Asia, and then had a “resurrection” of sorts a couple of years ago.

They are also seeking athletic models aged between 18 and 30 with healthy and fit bodies. On their website, they mentioned models potentially earning over “300,000” for appearing in the videos. But they left out the most important part – the currency. It could be in Yen, but we think it could jolly well be in dollars! Are porn models really paid that well in Japan?

A former Australian diplomat and his American business partner have been convicted on “pornographyâ€? charges for distributing “Thai Guys” – a free Bangkok gay magazine cum tourist guide.
In March this year, Bangkok police said they found hundreds of videos and photographs, many containing explicit images of men having sex with pre-pubescent boys, in one of their homes. Thai authorities accused Scoble, from Sydney, of using his agency as a front to introduce foreign men to Thai boys. (more at Fridae.com)

The QueerClick team managed to find the online version of the magazine. The site looks a tad backdated, but apart from gay-and-Thai-related feature articles, it has endless scrolls of pictures in galleries such as “Faces” where you can find many personals of Thai boys and their admirers.
With the owners going behind bars now (one charged for 7 months and the other 8), we wonder what will happen to the site.
Harbin, China – A report in the state run Xinhuanet reported that according to the country’s first ever survey on homosexuals, at least 80 percent of China’s estimated five to 10 million gays mistakenly believe they are safe from HIV/AIDS. Conducted by the center of AIDS control and prevention under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with its branch office in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, they survey, found 80.6 percent of the gay men are totally ignorant of their exposure to the virus or underestimate the risk.
