Nicolás sat on the cold concrete, his few belongings stuffed in a torn backpack beside him. The city lights cast harsh shadows across his face as he tried to figure out what to do next. That’s when Felipe approached, his expensive shoes stopping right in front of Nicolás’s worn sneakers.
“Rough night?” Felipe asked, looking down at the younger man. “I have a spare room. Hot shower too. But nothing’s free in this world.”
Nicolás looked up, desperation clear in his eyes. “What do you want?”
Felipe smiled. “We’ll figure that out after you get cleaned up. Come on.”
The apartment was small but warm. Felipe led Nicolás straight to the bathroom, handing him a towel. “Strip down and get in. I’ll bring you some clothes.”
