Avril is turning Japanese!
Avril Lavigne's new preppy and poppy single will be incomprehensible to some, but not because of her new hard-core Beverly Hills HS cheerleader slut look (that's a mouthful).
The single "Girlfriend" has been released in 8 different languages, including a wild-ass Mandarin version. Word on the street and industry is that Lavigne worked her Canuk ass off with a language coach to make sure that every word and intonation was correct.
Girlfriend debuted at number one on Japan's international and domestic charts, which we hear is something unheard of for an English-speaking artist. We also hear that she's promoting her music through a Japanese-style manga comic, "Make 5 Wishes," which will distributed via cellphone. If any of our Japanese friends grab it, let us know.

K I give her props for the language stuff but that song and new image contradicts everything she stood for before, she's a sell out! Thumbs down!

I'm confused. If Avril had to learn her song in Mandarin, then why is she such a hit in Japanese markets? Mandarin is spoken in China...
She is not singing in Mandarin DT. She is singing in Japanese. She is pretty good too. She seems fine and I can see her being popular in Japan. Thumbs up for me!
I agree with MrX in that she is contradicting everything she once stood for. However, I've always felt she was a bit of a "poser"... Her high school pics show a total prep. And to Hotty, music (good music anyway) is generally meant to convey the artists feelings about what you call real life... it shouldn't be as if she's acting like it were a movie or something... that's just silly.
Anyways, regardless I totally want the guy in the video.
What the hell? This girl is acting the biggest bitch in this clip, i mean seriously if you in that girls position, the girl that the guy dumped for avril, u would feel so cut, wouldnt you? This is a bad influence of teenagers, it pisses me off that she acutal did this.

I think everybody who starts whinging about Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and the others of that paticular grouping, are just losers. Seriously, who cares if they're selling out? They're not making good music. In ten years time they know themselves that they'll be no where and has beens. So good on them for squeezing every cent out of the teeny boppers that they can, atleast they're not selling drugs or anything.
I love how there is this big debate on whether she is selling out, as if Avril Lavigne was SO hardcore before. Come on now ......
