Ask QC: To Rim Or Not To Rim?
Dear Ask QC
To Rim or Not to Rim? That is the question!
I know this might sound a bit “basic” this question but I really love to rim (licking the anus) and love being rimmed out too. But Im not really that sure how safe it is or if there are any dangers involved. Are there any special “tricks” your readers know to determine whether someone you just met is really clean “down there”? I always make sure Im scrupulously clean before sex but Im not sure if everyone goes to those lengths.
Any advice on the risks and tips to stay clean (and know if someone is clean) would be appreciated – many thanks!
Rimmer

Rimming is an interesting beast. I don't like to give rim jobs, but I love receiving them. In fact, I have received them on quite a few occasions. But something about them gross me out whenever I think about giving one.
That being said, the main element is to make sure the person is clean by making sure your partner has just taken a shower. This might be a basic response, but the smell should tell you if he’s clean or not. If it’s not clean, a gentle way to get your partner clean is to suggest that you like a hairless ass and get him to shave down there in the shower before your rimjob. That would force him into the shower right then and there.
In my experience, most people are not as clean as I wish. I’m like you…I take great strides to make sure I smell “spring rain” clean-n-fresh. But never have I had a partner who’s been clean enough to surpass my own personal standards. So I guess the default perspective is to think that your partner is not clean and then get him in the shower. That would be my only thought. I hope this helps.
I used to be like Jason (hmmmm, I know a few Jasons), I loved to receive rim jobs but just couldn't bring myself to lick another guy's anus. Then I met a guy with the most beautiful arse. Just looking at it made my mouth water. He liked to shower before sex so I knew he was very clean. In fact, I'd washed him. That night I found out why so many guys love rimming another guy. It was the hottest thing I'd ever done. Next to kissing, nothing gets my cock hard faster than rimming a guy, but I'm very picky. The best way to tell if a guy is clean is the smell test. If you're sucking a guy's cock and there's a smell then you know not to go there. If you're not sure, act like you're gonna lick his perineum. If all still smells good then you're probably good to go. Oh, and if the guy has a hairy arse, don't ask him to shave himself, offer to shave him. It makes great foreplay. Having said all that, rimming does have it's health issues just like any sexual activity (hepatitis not the least of them), but as long as your partner is healthy and clean then you should be ok.
I have to love/like someone at LOT and I mean A LOT before I will rim them. Cleanliness is a perquisite. I always have the fear that a fart will escape while I'm down there and he had Broccoli & Bacon Soup for lunch.
I don't think I will ever rim again. Got a massive E. Coli infection 3 weeks ago, high fever of 103°, chills/convulsions so bad I couldn't breathe. If this is what waterboarding feels like...it is torture. My partner called 911 as he was so scared. For a week I felt like I was repeatedly being hit by a bus, every joint and my head ached. I never had flu make me feel this badly. Now I have 100° again this morning and passing bright red blood so waiting to see a doctor AGAIN.
My doctor said the main culprit is food and food handlers, but any way you can get foreign feces into your body may result in infection. I have had some doubts about the off color of the hot tub at my gym on occasion and my doctor said if not treated adequately with chemicals, that can be another breeding ground for bacteria. The powerful spa pumps could possibly inject water up into the urethra. No more raw oysters or Sushi for me either.

Speaking strictly from the standpoint of a physician, I want to caution our gentle readers that one of the preventable complications of rimming, namely Hepatitis A infection, is in fact preventable. All men how have sex with men should be vaccinated and this is easily accomplished by two injections 6 months apart. If you do not feel comfortable revealing your sexual orientation to your physician you can also ask for it in anticipation of travel abroad, as that is recommended by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Other risks of rimming (which I myself am crazy about..just love it) are bacterial infections and parasitic infections, particularly ameobic infections. Should you contract a protacted diarrheal illness after rimming, please contact your physician as some of these illnesses are not self-limited. Good washing should help but it is not foolproof. Good luck fellow butt pirates!

LGNTexas, I feel your pain. Even the strongest precautions may not keep you entirely safe. I suffered a serious bout of C. Difficile that I believe resulted from rimming. By the time the doctor finally diagnosed it, I had suffered 3 months of nauseau, vomiting, weakness and dehydration during which I lost 20 pounds of muscle. Not worth it! Be safe out there, guys.
Most gay men get vaccinated against Hep B, not Hep A (vaccinations are carried out before travelling to certain tropical countries). Hep B vaccinations are carried out with three doses. Gay men are considered a high risk for Hep B as it is passed through sexual activity through body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal secretions), much in the same way as the HIV virus.
I'm a rimaholic... just love to tease and tantalise my partner with my tongue
Ive done the Hep A vaccination plus always shower together prior to having sex.
But I still keep on having problems picking up intestinal parasites... ie worms. Not a real issue but it means regular treatment to keep the problem under control

You must be kidding! Getting intestinal worms is not a Big Deal to you ?
worms? E. coli? who the hell are you guys rimming?! a German Shepherd?
Wash your fruit before you eat him.
Get your hepatitis shots. It's a series given over several months, and if you miss one you have to start over. But then you can rim away without fear of contracting hepatitis.
Yikes boys... so many desieses.. i rim and am rimmed i always give the lucky gent the once over down stairs before i go to town! If no brown lick er down lol thats gross, no but really if its nasty down there dont do it... either do something else or have him shower... were all gays here we have anal sex in the pooper same rules apply to this. I got my hep vaccination in college which is required in alot of schools now, for dorm room rimming purposes im sure... and keep and demand a clean butt and havent had a problem just... as always think with your big head even when the little one is trying to take over and youll be fine!
Sean...you gave me the best laugh I've had in months. Thanks buddy!!
As for the topic at hand...I'm a butt muncher to my committed partner...only. And sex always begins in the bath tub or shower!!
but guys, all u were talking about is the implications of rimming. How about the real act itself? The tips of cleaning/showering? Go back to the Rimmer's questions, people. I got a question on my own, how clean the guy has to be before you could put your tongue in him.
sean, your rebuke is hilarious... german shepher! ha! good one.
i loved this query. Only because I couldn't get past the rimming either. I feel better that there are others that say no way. And hearing about the risks involved. This is a good thread.
