Thursday Ditty: Homosapien
![]()
We must've played this song a hundred some-odd times in the 80's. The singer, Pete Shelley is from the band, The Buzzcocks. Homosapien was his first solo release in 1981 and it got banned by the BBC for "explicit reference to gay sex", but that didn't stop it from becoming enormously popular in dance clubs in Europe and North America. Though it's repetitive, it's a catchy tune with some great lyrics:
You and I, me and you, we will be one from two, understand?
And the world is so wrong that I hope that we'll be strong enough
For we are on our own and the only thing known is our love
I don't wanna classify you like an animal in the zoo
But it seems good to me to know that you're Homosapien too.

The coolest thing in the whole video is the Commodore Pet computer sitting on the floor. Ah that takes me back...
I googled the card he was holding, but didn't get any trivia results or info on wikipedia. It seemed familiar to me, and I thought it to be in the Thoth tarot deck by the famed occultist A.C.
It is. It's the Fool.
Very interesting.
