Michael Lucas Stands Up For Dustin Lance Black's Barebacking Ass
Never one to let a twink steal the spotlight (re: Brent Corrigan's underage ass at the GAYVN awards), the Ice Queen of Porn, Michael Lucas, put out a statement regarding the barebacking pics of his BFF, Dustin Lance Black:
I keep hearing from various gay leaders in different organizations about those "bareback" pictures. I haven't seen those pictures, and I don't care to see those pictures. This guy is a screenwriter who has brought before a new generation a great historical time in the gay community with MILK. He is not a safe sex advocate; but even if he was, it doesn't matter what he is doing in the privacy of his bedroom. My understanding obviously is that he had sex with his boyfriend. So what the fuck is all this noise about? Why does he have to answer for the intimacy of his relationship. He also did not post those pictures, it was some vengeful queen who did. He can't be held accountable for the leeches that want to pray on his status now that he is accomplished.
I believe that he's also given a statement. If I was him, my statement would be simple: None of your fucking business. My boyfriend was the President of the Gay Center for ten years. He has shown me emails from some of the biggest gay leaders and most influential players in the community who were casting harsh shame on Black's character. This is a perfect example of bored rich fags throwing their stones in glass houses, like they've never fucked without protection. I can't imagine that they've never had sex without a condom with a person they were in a relationship with. I'm glad he has given them a quick hobby to talk about but this is ridiculous, hysterical, and nasty. What a disgusting abrasive story which was started by yellow press gossip columnists.
Yeah, great advice, Mike. Let's have the eloquent gay golden boy of the Oscars stand in front of a press conference and say "None of your fucking business! I'll fuck how I wanna fuck! It's my hot body!" Maybe after that, Black could snort a rail off the podium and do a body shot off of a priest.

Actually, I think that is great advice, because ya know what? It's NOT any of our fucking business what this man chooses to do in his bedroom, or how he chooses to do it. (As long as it's with another consenting adult, of course.) We're (the gay community) always whining about how the government needs to stay out of our bedrooms, but yet here we are sticking our noses in someone's bedroom, waggling our fingers and saying "shame on you!" for something that many, if not all, of us have done.
i think the lesson here should be: NEVER, EVER, EVER allow yourself to be taped while having ANY kind of sex...how many times has this scenario played out with other "celebrities?"
The "catch" of course is that while this sort of thing basically launched Paris Hilton's career, right-wing media will use it to distort messages about our community...so while it truly is no one's fucking business, it certainly isn't a plus for us.

I'm inclined to agree with both Donnie and Matthew W . Its an odd nuance here, but I feel like we're somehow looking at this situation through an ultra-conservative lens. Does bearbacking send an irresponsible message to a youth cuture increasingly oblivious to the realities of HIV/AIDS? More than likely. Is it ultimitley the responsibility of someone who didn't intend for a sex tape to be put out for public consumption to adhere to such cautions? Not in my opinion. If Mr. Black was doing porn, and the porn was distributed widely, for profit, I'd say there was more of a responsibility to adhere to some standards from which to generate an awareness. But who are any of us to come into someone's formerly private life and critique their behavior. There are a great many things we don't know about Mr. Black and the other party, they could be longtime partners, or this could be a thoughtless casual fling (But considering the popularity of Manhunt.com, I'd argue more than a few do similarly), either way, I look at it (risky sexual behavior) as something I personally try to avoid, but otherwise can't condemn. Ultimitley, its Mr. Black's body, he can do with it whatever he sees fit.
Though, I'm not sure if press releases are needed. This isn't exactly the shot heard round the world....
I agree w/Lucas. I agree w/Matthew above and w/Donnie. All are correct. Black is the victim here of a vicious prank to embarass him by means of disclosure of a private video between him and his bf (apparently) at the time. There are thousands of normal men who made pics or videos with former partners that could find themselves in the exact same circumstance with the click of a mouse. There are thousands of men who have barebacked with partners and bfs. Black made a significant accomplishment, and his fellow gay men simply want to exploit him. Our behavior with this is a disgrace.
Michael Lucas's posings are not sexy. Always, that pouting lower lip, slightly squinting eyes and sucked in jaws. Didn't Ben Stiller did that in "Zoolander" as parody? Michael, being vampy and sexy are not the same thing.
I'm sorry, but a pornographer standing up for Black probably does him no favors. Michael Lucas is as guilty of exploiting the situation for self publicity as everyone else. Overall, I don't care that Black had unprotected sex...whatever...his life. I just think that he was a fool for recording it.
Michael Lucas has a blog where he comments on stuff. In this case his comments are basically the same as queerclick's. Why is it "self promotion" if Lucas says it and OK if queercklick says it? And isn't the Zoolander joke getting a little old?
I'll remember it's none of our business if he gets sick because he was a barebacking fool. Oh wait, that isn't allowed in the gay community. It would be *gasp* judgmental. This is me rolling my eyes.
I don't care if it's a "boyfriend" doesn't mean much to some guys and less to many gay men in terms of fidelity. DLB is a class one idiot and should be scolded by the community which lived and lost in the AIDS '80s.
