Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer: A Spectacular French Gay Animated Film

Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer: The Gay Animated Film We Didn't Know We Needed

A virus is sweeping through Paris – and it turns gay men straight!

That’s the premise of Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer, the debut animated feature from French studio Bobbypills, and honestly? It’s as chaotic and joyful as it sounds!

Jim is the undisputed sovereign of the Gym Queens on the Parisian gay scene – ripped, Insta-famous, and worshipped. Then ‘Heterosis’ hits, and suddenly he’s going from Pride royalty to social outcast. His only ally is Lucien, a freshly-out twink with more heart than abs, and together they race to find a cure before the disease erases the community that once worshipped him.

The film is a project eight years in the making for directors Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané, and that devotion shows.

Nguyen was working as a club promoter in Paris back in 2018, using his art skills to make flyers for gay parties, and it was through that world that the creative team came together – so this is genuinely of the community, not just about it.

Jim Queen had its world premiere at the Midnight Screenings section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for both the Caméra d’Or and the Queer Palm. Not bad for a debut feature!

The film hits French cinemas on June 17, 2026 – right in the thick of Pride season. U.S. distribution is still being sorted out, so keep an eye out!
