Updates On New QueerClique

Updates On New QueerClique
Hello peeps!! Okay, I know that seeing the logo up there will get many of you sexcited! Hee hee. Yes, after 2 months (we thank you for your patience), we’re happy to bring good news.
We’re ready to accept the first round of Beta Users right now. If you’re keen to be one of the first to test run the new platform, please leave us a “I want to be a QueerClique Beta User!” comment below, (very important reminder: your email address must be valid) and we will issue you a special invitation to join the new QueerClique. Limited openings only. So better hurry!

Hey guys, so Ning finally flipped the switch today. We’ve decided to create a page to keep everyone posted on the progress of the migration. First of all, we’d like to assure those who still do not know what’s happening (perhaps you’re too busy setting up your own page or lost in the hot boys) that QueerClique hasn’t disappeared. We’ve included all the past notices we’ve put up below, so please refer to them to get an overview of what’s happening.
So where are we with things? We’ve decided on the platform to build the new QueerClique after evaluating several options. This new option will be hosted on our own servers, so we won’t be running into the same issues of a service provider shutting us off suddenly in the future. Besides running an internal Beta Network, we’re working on writing plugins to enhance usability.
Please check back on this page for updates. We wish to launch QueerClique asap as we are equally anxious. Thanks for your continued support AND patience.
Cheers,
Editor D

Hey guys, after 12 Days, 26.6 GB and 55,029 Files, we’ve got the network backed up.
Happy New Year,
Editor D

Hi there guys, a quick update on the status of things over at our end. Ning had finally granted us access to back up the network (this includes the Video, Photo, and Music contents) and our computer has not been shut down for the past 10 days, still sucking the bone marrow outta the servers. We are at 18GB of files right now, not sure how long more this is going to take. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
Thanks for all the various suggestions of alternatives. At this point, SocialGo is a NoGo due to the poor performance we’ve experienced over this duration (we have set up a test network). The interface is definitely elegant, but performance is what we want at the end of the day, and it doesn’t deliver.
We have identified two platforms to run QueerClique on. We are evaluating both platforms rigorously right now. It may take some time, but we want to be certain what we decide on eventually will be the best for you guys.
We will continue to keep everyone posted. In the meantime, you may want to do your own mini “backups” before the content disappears in a few days. Not sure exactly when Ning will flip the switch, so you may wanna hurry.
We will also be keeping you updated on QueerClick.com, so you won’t have to worry about not knowing where and when QueerClique will return.
I wish everyone a great new year ahead. 2009 will be a better one, with a stronger QueerClique. =)
Muacks,
Editor D

Dear QCliquers, I’m afraid I have bad news to share, so apologies in advance.
Some of you may already be aware, but Ning – our Network Platform provider – has very suddenly decided to shut down all adult networks (it will take effect on 1st January 2009), not so much due to the content nature (cos they did allow Adult networks from Day One) but a business decision based on the financial viability of having adult networks (which have been mushrooming recently, many of which upload commercial videos violating copyright) that bleed bandwidth, and thence bandwidth charges on Ning’s part.
We had chosen Ning as the platform provider when we decided to build QueerClique due to their strong support, the beauty of the application, the strength of their development team, and also because they had, until now, explicitly allowed Adult Networks.
We have also taken great care in monitoring our content, ensuring they do not violate any copyright, as is evident in our focus on amateur content.
Here’s a note we received yesterday:
“Dear Network Creator,
As a Network Creator of an adult network on Ning, we have an important announcement regarding your social network.
As of January 1, 2009, we are discontinuing support for adult social networks on the Ning Platform.
We’re not discontinuing support for adult networks because we no longer believe in the freedom to create your own social network for anything as long as it’s legal. We do. Practically though, supporting adult networks no longer makes sense. For those of you interested in the specifics, we’ve posted more on the Ning Blog: http://blog.ning.com/2008/12/the-end-of-the-red-light-district.html
For those of you who created and worked hard on your adult networks, we appreciate your work and dedication and wish there were a different answer.
For questions on this announcement, please visit us in the Ning Help Center (http://help.ning.com).
Thanks,
The Ning Team”

The rather weakly-penned note and blatant disregard for business credibility aside, our biggest concern now is the great community of over 26,000 members we’ve built over this past half a year. It pains us to think of losing it all. I know many of you will be disappointed, and you have every right to feel miffed, as we do. However, we’d like to gather our focus now on swiftly identifying viable alternatives to migrate the network. Team QC’s priority now is to pre-empt downtime, and make any transition as seamless as possible. It will be a challenge, but we never say die.
In the meantime, we’re working with Ning to secure all the content we have on QClique (they have an Export function right now, but it’s extremely basic and do not cover all content such as the very valuable media files) and to see if we can explore other viable arrangements.
We are not accepting anymore new members, and the network has been switched to a fully Private Mode.
If you have any constructive suggestions or advice to save this burgeoning network, please get in touch with me at dan [at] queerclick.com.
I’m hoping that amongst the 26,000 members, there will be an Evangelist or two who’s willing to help out during crunch time.
On behalf of the entire team at QC, we thank you for your understanding and sharing our frustration, and look forward to swiftly resolving this issue on hand.
More Power To QC,
Editor D
