Things took a turn for the sad this week with the news of Wilfried Knight’s passing. We don’t necessarily want to dwell on this any longer than we already have, but the news occasioned a beautiful piece of writing by a QC staffer who knew Knight personally. I have been reeling about how best to write this love and admiration down in words. I want to honor Wilfried Knight’s memory. I want to respect his devastated family. Should I write anything? Would this upset Wilfried if I wrote it? Of all of these questions: One thing is very clear, I need to make sure his message underneath this tragedy is made loud and clear.

Wilfried became a loved one in my life, because he was always so honest and unguarded about his own life. Often proclaiming to be the Susan Lucci of porn stars (nominated, but never a big winner), he was quite proud of his intentionally offensive Sacrificed Jesus-in-Leather statement at the GAYVNs, which also was the night where he finally won. And at the end of that night, I’ll always remember him saying very sincerely, “I want to thank you for always being a friend to me first.” Something about his good nature, made it easy for Wilfried to be friends with anyone who was honest with him.
Wilfried was fucking funny. Genuine. Passionate. Proud. Beautiful?inside and out.
Wilfried Knight, legend in the world of gay porn, has died. Several sources within the community confirmed the news yesterday and, though the exact circumstances of his death are still forthcoming, suicide is rumored to be the cause. Knight’s death comes on the heels of his partner’s suicide on February 21st. We’re really at a loss, readers. At least one member of Team QC was personal friends with Wilfried, and as a community we’re devastated by this news. Frankly, we’re tired of bringing you sad news like this, and not just within the porn industry. When will we be able to start having effective, productive conversations about depression within the LGBT community? Of course there’s love and support in the LGBT community, and especially in places like QueerClick, and we’re very grateful for it. But doesn’t it feel stretched a little thin when constantly invoked in the shadow of tragedies like this?
