Hey guys, we’re uber stoked that our latest site stats reveal browsing times on Sticky to be alot longer – which means you are having fun digging into the contents. Please let us know what contents you’d like to see more of.
Over the course of the last 2 weeks we have optimised the layout for mobile devices by getting rid of the imposing logo at the top and replacing it with a collapsible side nav bar. Next, we will be working on the return-back experience which is one big irksome irritation because it doesn’t return you to where you have “left things.” And nobody likes having their furniture rearranged everytime they leave the house, right?
In the meantime, the Exposed section has proven to be really popular with readers, so make sure you check it out regularly as we add more Exposed dudes to the stable.

It’s been a month since the launch of Sticky 3.0 so we thought we’d celebrate this little milestone with a new colourful promo video!
We got off to a rough start and have been working really hard the entire month in improving performance, layout, and the overall experience across various devices, and will continue to do so.
Thanks for your constructive feedback but more importantly your patience and continued support. We’ve lost a few readers (so painful to get readers who have been with us for years turn around and write life-threatening emails, curse us with hurtful abusive words cos we “took a good thing and ruined it”), but on the other hand, we’ve gained a whole lot more readers and mobile usage of Sticky is through the roof. So hello to our new readers. Finally, we’d like to thank our very special and loyal group of readers who stuck with us and gave us the luxury of time to work on improving things over here, despite the initial frustration. We’re truly blessed.
It’s been a great humbling, illuminating and learning experience for the team.
I’d like to share a sobering excerpt from Eric Rie’s “Lean Startup” about how difficult it is to launch a site. It goes: “The longer we worked, the more afraid we became of how customers would react when they finally saw the new version. As our plans became more ambitious, so too did the number of bugs, conflicts, and problems we had to deal with. Pretty soon we got into a situation in which we could not ship anything. Our launch date seemed to recede into the distance. The more work we got done, the more work we had to do. The lack of ability to ship eventually precipitated a crisis and a change of management, all because of the trap of large batches.”
That pretty much encapsulates the challenges and fears we face whenever we do revamps. And especially so for a site like Sticky which hasn’t changed for over three years resulting in pretty entrenched muscle memory in user behaviour. But what we’ve learned is – it’s better to ship fast, fail fast, and iterate fast than to never ship at all.
We’re currently hard at work with the new design of QC 4.0 – Yep, you can imagine how we’re both equally excited AND nervous about the launch now. LOL. So here’s a gentle reminder to myself and Team QC: We have the best job on Planet Unicorn, even when shit hits the fan.

Otherwise, it’s been sexy, sexy business as usual over on this end of things. Perhaps the most exciting news of the week (not that there wasn’t a ton of other sexcitement) was the return of our Man of the Year, Brandon in a new bareback Sean Cody scene.
HEY GUYS!!! Thank you for your patience whilst we were putting the final nuts and bolts together. We have been hard at work for months on end to look into revamping Sticky cos … can you believe it… it’s been three years since the last redesign!?
Sticky is a hugely popular web-destination within the QC Network. Heck, we are the Gay Pinterest before Pinterest became Pinterest. Revamping a popular online property with a huge following is always a scary adventure because on the one hand you intently go “hey, let’s TEAR everything down and SHRED things apart and start with a CLEAN SLATE!” but on the other hand, you’re constantly thinking “but wait, I think we should keep THIS, and THAT, and oh, THIS TOO! What if our readers don’t like it? How about we keep things the way they are.”
But as with fried chicken and booze, and, dare we say porn – moderation is key. 😉
We have souped things quite a bit—now you can comment on each Sticky post, share them, love them, etc. We’ve also colour-coded different types of content (image, audio, video, quotes, linkouts, etc) for a more reader-friendly layout. This new design also sports a responsive layout so it should fluidly adjust to whatever device or browser you’re running with.
In the past, Sticky had been a links repository of what we found interesting around Planet Unicorn, many of which were user-submitted. Readers love the simple format of an image, a brief description, and a linkout to the source. And site owners love the traffic we bring them. We’re still keeping the core spirit of Sticky but this time, we’ll be throwing in more native content, and venture into mid-length format posts. It’ll still be punchy.
Remember we update round-the-clock, 24/7, 365 days. Sticky will always be fresh for your picking. We invite you to join us in making Sticky the best visual smorgasvisualboard that will provide endless amusement for posters and readers alike.
