Who Has Been Waiting For 365 Days?

Admittedly, pop music and I have a contentious relationship, but I love love love this mash-up retrospective. What do you guys think? Was 2012 a good year for pop? What’s missing from this list?

For my money, I’d have loved to see a little more Marina and the Diamonds this year. Electra Heart came out in April, and is one of the smartest pop albums of 2012, methinks.

I’ll also take any opportunity to talk your ear off about the latest Fiona Apple. Woefully undanceable as she is, I’m not sure she quite qualifies as pop. Nonetheless, her excessively titled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do (Come on, really, Fiona?) is definitely worth a listen.

“Best of” season is in full swing. What topped your playlists in 2012? Even better, who wants to cop to an embarrassing guilty pleasure? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
