2013 Cybersocket Web Awards: Winning Best Gay Porn Blog

I am just rolling back from a week in Los Angeles and am so happy and grateful to share the news of our unexpected, but wonderfully sweet win as your choice for 2013 Best Gay Porn Blog! Yippee!
I say it was unexpected because we gratefully won in the past, but hadn’t in the past several years (and that was after some pretty heavy begging and campaigning on Twitter and Facebook)! This year we took a different approach. Sure we mentioned the nominations and voting had started, but we didn’t push hard. We love our fans and we know you love us back. And while it’s great to win awards, we decided we wouldn’t be heart-broken if someone else deservedly won.
So there I was standing in, representing the entire QueerClick team and as the ever-wonderful Jackie Beat called out the nominees for Best Gay Porn Blog and I heard a fan say to their companion “I hope QueerClick wins.” It was a very Sally Field moment.
That comment alone meant the world to me. They had no idea who I was, as I grinned and felt so proud to be there for entire QueerClick gang. And I’ll admit it tugged at my emotions as I walked onstage to accept. In my nervousness, I could only muster a very sincere and very simple, “Thank you all who voted for us so very much.” To which Jackie said, “Wow! That’s it from a blogger? I might have to go visit your blog!”

And then I kicked myself, because I wanted to thank all the fans, the gay porn bloggers, the porn stars and the studios. So, I guess that’s what I have been trying to say is there is something far more meaningful when you don’t expect to win. Maybe it was just my mushy, emotional mood (!!!) but this year’s awards didn’t seem messy. They didn’t seem scandal filled. There have been some rumblings about whether or not winners knew prior to the award show and I am happy to clear up what I did know: We were contacted by the Cybersocket folks and they wanted to know if we were going to be at the show or not. Admittedly this gave us a clue that we might have nabbed this year’s award, but I also felt it was no guarantee we’d won.
I thought the show was great. Jackie Beat did a fine job at the daunting task of MC’ing the show and is damn quick and funny that she kept things moving along. I love the opening number with RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Raja and enjoyed mingling amongst some porn greats, Adam Killian, Austin Wilde, Johnny Rapid, Jake Bass, Chris Rockway, Trenton Ducati, Phillip Aubrey, Tate Ryder, the cute guys from Skruff and of course many more.
So, if I haven’t expressed it already, from each and every one of us at QueerClick we’d like to THANK YOU! You motivate us and while we’re humbled by your choice to vote for us as this year’s winner, that doesn’t stop us. It makes us want to push and try harder at being the best. Just wait and see what we have planned in the coming year…
