TV Tuesday: Gay Heinz Mayo Ad

TV Tuesday brings you gay and “queer” bits from the tube. You may remember the somewhat controversial Heinz mayo ad that featured a businessman kissing his deli counter husband. Heinz eventually pulled the ad under pressure from viewers who complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that it was “offensive” and “inappropriate to see two men kissing.” Though that’s stupid and obviously untrue, even the commercial’s supporters saw it as deliberately provocative and generally confusing. See, the family’s British, but the deli dad sounds and is dressed like a New York deli guy… so using Heinz mayo… makes you… a deli guy? Or something? Oh well… GAY LOVE FOREVER!
