Unzipped Magazine Folds (Wait… They Still Had A Magazine?)

Unzipped Magazine Folds (They Had A Magazine?)
We were saddened to learn about the folding of Unzipped, one of the last big gay porn mags. The Sword has the details as well as a body count:

The company is waiting to roll out the official announcement, but a couple newly-unemployed staffers leaked the sad news over the weekend to sources close to The Sword. Unzipped’s blog is still up and running as of this morning, but it is likely that the two new issues currently waiting in the wings will never be printed.

I’m not sure whether the end of Unzipped’s is the result of a faulty editorial strategy or whether it’s part of the mass death of gay print media in general: The Advocate (another Regent Media property) is now just an insert in Out; the awful Genre (remember Genre?) is dead, and Instinct (also awful) can’t be far off; Playgirl only goes to the printer now if Sarah Palin is involved; and of course there was last year’s folding of Mavety Media

Mavety Media published a slew of gay porn mags like Honcho, Torso, Mandate, Playguy, Inches, Black Inches, and Latin Inches… that’s a lot of inches.
Honestly, we’re astounded Unzipped still had a magazine at all! Who the heck buys porn mags these days anyway? Sure we look at porn mags in the gay bookstore, but that’s only a pretext so we can cruise our next toilet tramp. But it still sucks because we enjoyed reading Unzipped’s blog and their pictures were hot, Hot, HOT!!! Plus, imagine all those out of work porn employees hauling their dildos and inflatable fuck dolls out in cardboard boxes… so very, very sad. We don’t know about you, but it’s hard to get it up when you’re sad.
It really seems that if gay publications want to stay afloat, they’re either going to need to become aggregate sites (like us) or provide some cool social networking site so porn fans can interact and hook up (kinda like QueerClique). So until the next best online porn mag comes along, you’re better (getting) off with us.
We’ll miss you, Unzipped.
