All Australian Boys: Aussie Rules Footballers Cooling Off

Australian Rules football — invariably known as “Aussie Rules” since Australians pronounce all words and names in an abbreviated form and with an “ie”, “o” or “y” added to the end to give it even more irreverence — is an extremely popular form of football played in the more southern regions of Australia (in other words, Sydney and below). Not to be confused with the two Rugby codes (such as Rugby Union, played by QC favorite David Pocock), Aussie Rules is a completely confusing mix of soccer and volleyball, played on an enormous field. Even few Aussies fully understand the rules. See if you can work it out:

Got it? Us either. Anyway, lucky beachgoers hanging out at any of Sydney or Melbourne’s popular beaches on a Monday afternoon are treated to the deluxe sight of most of the teams doing their cool-down sessions, easing their muscles back into another week of training, in nothing but speedos. There’s nothing private about it, all are welcome to perv (Australian slang for “stare lustily”):

The bearded spunk (Australian slang for “hottie”) in most of the photos is prize Aussie Rules star Lance “Buddy” Franklin, who before he moved to his current team, the Sydney Swans, played way down south for Hawthorn Hawks, a team based in Melbourne. Here he is in action with the Hawks:

And he used to cool off with his teammates down there too, in the team’s in house brown and yellow Speedos:
